Default Build Date/VIN

Would someone please refresh my memory on which numbers in the VIN indicate the build date on my '13 coupe? Thanks!

Have your dealer run your car's VIN through the GM Vehicle Inquiry System (GM VIS). The Build Information portion of the inquiry will show your car's actual build date. This is the only way of which I'm aware where one can find their car's actual build date. Also, several Forum members here have access to GM VIS. Start a new thread requesting a GM VIS inquiry and include your car's VIN. One of these members may show up to help you. Good luck!

Read a thread here recently that advised the actual build date is written in white grease pencil at the top underside of the front passenger side fender. unfortunately it disappears quickly as you drive the car from road grime. Since my '13 only had 200 miles on it I looked under the fender with a flashlight and surprise!! It was scribbled but legible 11/8/12. This lined up with the build date on the tires by about a week. Thanks line person.

I saw that thread too and the date written there may or may not be your car's actual build date. My guess is that whoever wrote the date there did so before the finder liner was ever installed on the body and/or before the body was married to the chassis on the assembly line. Again, as I mentioned above, have your car's VIN run through GM VIS then you will know for certain.

I thought it was rather odd that someone would note a date in an inconspicuous place on each fender liner. Did a line foreman require it be noted or was someone just having some fun? I found the same kind of notation scratched in the underside of the hood on my '86 Indy Vert along with a couple of names.

True. Without knowing why or when during the build process that the date was written there, there is no way of knowing the significance of the date.

I just did front brakes and noticed some writing in white inside the fender wells, didn't pay much attention to it. My car, although older, is low mileage, I'm going out and read the writing now, interesting!
