Default First SMOG check

Well, after 6 years and 110,000 miles, the State of California invited my car to participate in its SMOG check program for the first time, Here is the extent of engine maintenance and tune ups the car has received since it was new. (07 LS2 A6) I changed the spark plugs at 60,000 miles. Installed a CAI (Veraram) at 10,000 and have cleaned the filter every 30,000 or so miles, Installed 2 set of spark plug wires, a PCV oil catch can, and have changed the fluids (more or less) according to the service manual and the DIC.
So at the SMOG check station, the technician first asks me how the doors open since there is no key hole in the door, then how to start it, because there is no key hole in the dash! Then how to turn off the AC, And then, how to open the hood (No kidding) After looking around the engine compartment he tells me I really know how to modify an engine () since it really isn't modified !! but it is really clean and does have color matched coil covers !! Any way, after actually doing the test, the emissions levels were so low, the guy actually thought the exhaust system was modified, because of the 4 exhaust tips sticking out the back, causing a low emissions reading (I told him it was all factory installed) !! Any way the car passed with Flying colors, coming in well below the average readings of all passing cars in every category recorded !!!

I think that really speaks well for the engines design, reliability and its emissions systems performance

Good to hear you passed, but did you ask your smog tech why he is still doing a sniffer test on a post-2000 vehicle?

Good news. I passed my first one in March. I'm sure you know the CAI and the catch can were enough for him to fail the visual test but it sounds like it didn't even know what a Corvette is. The only CAI system that I know of that is CARB approved for the C6 is the K&N for the 2005 year only. The catch can ties into the PVC system that must remain stock for the inspection. Make sure you use this guy next time.
Congratulations.

I think the sniffer and dyno test go away on 7/1/2013.

I wonder how many cars fail a smog test these days? Most cars on the road are fairly new with good emmission systems. IMO they can do away with smog testing without hurting anything. The number of cars on the road that fail is probably negligable.

I've run some really ragged older cars through with a pass. One was an rx7 turbo with a blown coolant seal, another a jeep cherokee with 200k and almost no compression left, lol. The jeep fast passed and didn't even need the whole test lololol
I got a buddy with a ragged out cherokee i6 that won't pass, he runs a bottle of that guaranteed to pass additive thorugh, gets it good and hot, and it fast passes.

some day when you have like 2 hours let me tell you the insanity of trying to get an engine conversion car through emissions.
