using Helicoil?

using Helicoil?
i stripped threads where upper control arm attaches to the frame
i wanted to buy Hellcoil and wanted to ask if it is safe for such aplication
or better get timesert?
it is easyer to get helicoil from parts store

To install a hellicoil, you need to drill and tap a larger hole (using the hellicoil thread chart),then use a hellicoil insert tool to screw it into the bottom,back out the tool and break off the tab on the bottom. Make sure you tap those threads straight!

I don't see why a properly installed helicoil wouldn't work. I accidentally stripped out the rear upper shock mount bolt on my other vehicle. I drilled it out, tapped it, installed a helicoil, torqued the bolt and never had a problem.

When I was in the aircraft maintenance business we always used helicoils. However, this was over 25 years ago so wouldn't be surprised, if today, there is not something better.

I've got 40 yrs machine shop back ground also, heliacoil, nothing else, the threads are aircraft quality, just curious as to what op used.
