Default New to C6

I sold my 1992 Coupe in August of last year. I just bought a 2005 Couple and am just loving it. Way different then my 1992. It is loaded with just about every option available.

I do have some questions:

1. Haw hard is it to maintain? Dealer wants $1,000 to change all the fluids and filters. It has to be cheaper then that?

2. EMT tires, will need new tires soon, I thinking about just going with non-EMT tires all around.

3. I need some small stuff, like floor mats (TAN), and a back cargo shade.

It needs a good cleaning and polishing, but beyond that it is a lot faster then my 1992.

Can I change my name to Danah2005?

Congrats on your 05!
1. No harder to maintain than any other sports car.
2. I prefer the piece of mind of having run flats.
3. Lloyds mats are the best I have seen and available through several of the forum dealers.

2005's and up a different world for me! There's nothing not to like about the C6 style. My 05 is faster that my 2 previous C5's were. Had more options, torq HP etc.. has the Z-51 suspension system and the list goes on & on.
I have always had run-flats, probably always will. Get a flat without run-flats 100-200 miles from home and you'll get the idea. They cost more but you get what you pay for, in this case peace of mind regarding flats.. Get Lloyds Corvette mats, I just ordered mine and they make a nice touch to the interior. Dress it up your way!! It's YOUR vette!! good luck with it

That sounds outrageous, especially considering a lot of the fluids probably don't need to be changed on your car just yet. Exactly which ones were they going to be doing for that crazy price? Some of them you could do yourself (like engine oil, coolant) and some of them probably don't even need to be done right away (like rear end fluid, trans fluid, brake fluid) but you could get them done over the next couple of years. It's good to maintain these cars regularily but don't get trapped into thinking that all the fluids need to be changed every single year either, there is such a thing as overmaintenance! (which won't harm the car but will harm your wallet!)

Beautiful black beauty!

Did you get service records with the car? Should tell you when the oil was changes last, etc. Lloyd's mats are best. Cargo shade from a dealer. Run flats to be on the safe side. You have a choice of a few brands...

Polish? Your shine already hurts the eyes!

Runflats are about $1800 or more, while hankooks are better IMO and only $800. When you get a flat the runflat is a godsent! (feels weird driving with a flat tire but it works)

I choose to get AAA service and go with non runflats for the price and performance reasons. Hankook ventus v12 evo's.

Changing fluids should cost slightly more than a normal vehicle due to increased capacity and synthetics.

Engine air filter should only be replaced at the interval in the manual. Air filters are designed around the fact they will get dirty, thus a clean air filter lets in many more particles than a dirty one. I would just remove the stock filter and blow it out with canned air if you are not at the interval yet.

Thanks to all who have replyed so far.

I do have AAA also.

I want all the fluids done so I know where I stand from Day 1.

Check the for sale forum for the cargo shades. You will see them on there from time to time. In fact you may try a search for them.

Congrtats on your 'new' car.

IMHO the only reason to take your car to a dealer is for warranty issues.

Check your Regional Forum and/or local Vette clubs for recommendations of shops that can be trusted and won't gouge you.

Runflats are kinda like an insurance policy and would be my first choice.

Since you already have AAA, you can just add a Slime Kit and go for cheaper/quieter/better performing non-runflats if you prefer.

For your 'small' accessories there are great deals/sales always being offered by the Forum Vendors.

Lloyd's mats are great!

Just wish they offered a heel guard like the OEM mats... maybe they do and I just haven't asked.

Anyway, shop around for best price. I got a "bundle" deal from Southern Car Parts:
