On my last C6 I replaced the lenses on the front lights because the old ones were badly sun damaged. My Z has a clear film over its lights now. In fact the whole front clip has the clear protector attached to it.
OK so now I see the problem I've been having, I never went back and re-coated the lens. I need more research...... I can get them wet sanded and looking good but what and how to re-coat them and with what. Maybe youtube?
I have never understood why all manufacturers have not been required to recall all cars with clouded headlights. This is the worst safety related problem I have ever seen. They recall cars for things that are not even remotely safety related, but not this. Can anyone explain this for me?
To answer your question, yes I have had 3M on my head lights since 2 miles (January, 2007). No issues at all. Same with my current and prior CTS's and Avalanche for many years.
If you have wet sanded your lights you MUST re clear coat them or they will cloud up VERY quickly. After the clear coat is applied a good paint protection film will prevent any future damage.
There a re a few products on the market designed for DIY's. I've been toying with doing this also. Possibly Cleartastic Film. The coating would be OK except it doesn't look like it will do much for the pitting that will occur from sand or bugs hitting the plastic. The film could be removed and new film applied periodically. I think it's available on e-bay and possibly other internet sites as well.

Same here. Mine is just a couple of months shy of eight years old and the headlight lenses cannot be told from new. BTW, the material that my 3M installer applied to the headlights is thicker than what he used on the hood and front fenders; it may also be of different composition. Regardless, it still looks 100% perfect.
Thank You everyone for your responses. I have little nicks I guess from rocks and such but they are still clear. I can wet sand them and clean them up real good that is not the problem. I've checked Youtube and saw one product (can;t remember the name) that is sprayed on after the polishing is done and If I can find more information on products like this I will do that and then cover them with some type of plastic covering.
I was looking at this.
