I haven't won the Corvette Museum Lottery but I did win a 2012 Range Rover Evoque last year in a Hospital lottery and also won a 64 Vette ragtop the year before in a Lions Club draw. My motto is: You can't win if you don't have a ticket..haha
When I did my Buyer's Tour in 2010, I visited the NCM gift shop to pick up some souvenirs. There was a couple there checking out some very nice Corvette jackets. While waiting for a register, I said "hi", and soon discovered why there were there: Raffle winners of a new Grand Sport. I congratulated both of them and was truly happy to meet them in a magic once in a lifetime moment.
Although I must admit, a little pang of jealousy pooled up in the corner of my mind since I was there for the same basic reason....except I had to pay for mine!
So, for what it's worth, there are real winners of those cars....and it happened for those nice folks!
I've bought tickets in the past but unfortunately, never won. I always got bought tickets when the rafffle is about over and they only sold a small portion of the tickets allocated. Seems like everyone waits til the last minute to purchase tickets because they always seem to get close the final ticket allocation.
Interesting thread. I was wondering how many people understand the tax situation. I see they have a ZR1 raffle May 23th so the tax on that could be considerable. I wonder how often people could not afford the tax because they thought free meant free?
I haven't entered yet and not sure if I will for the very reason mentioned above. I won a bass boat last year in a on-line fantasy bass fishing league...the taxes on that thing played havoc on us but at least we were able to escape doing pretty good. I sold the certificate to the boat without ever seeing it and was able to walk with cash in hand...on a new Vette I am not sure I could walk away. I know, tough problem to have, but the reality is it can be financially devastating for some folks without them even knowing it's coming. I told my wife the other day I was thinking about buying a ticket...she looks at me and says "seriously"?!? With my luck I would win it and then have to figure out how to work it.
Entered one about 2 weeks ago, only selling 1,000 tickets total, paid $250, didn't win but the odds were way better than the lottery. I would worry about the taxes after I win, haha.
