Default Removing Emblems? Help.

Hello All,

Just bought my first vette a few months ago. She is a perfect C6, and I am not afraid to admit....... I love her.....maybe more than my wife. (not really!)

Anyway, the dealership put one of those stupid raised letter chrome emblems (dealership name) just underneath the corvette badge on the rear of the car.......I hate it and want it gone. Its not awful really, but just doesn't look right on the back of the car. Kinda insults the corvette badge just above in my opinion, know what I mean?

It looks like its fastened with a double sided adhesive tape, but in messing around with it, it was clearly designed to stay put. Is there an easy way to remove this myself? A trick perhaps, that will allow removal without risking ruining the paint behind it?

Or....am I best to see a body shop? Either way, its coming off!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys! Dave.

Many have posted that they used dental floss to take off emblems.

I always remove dealer stickers on any car I buy. It should come off by just getting your fingernails under one edge of it and pull....hard! I wouldn't try to use anything to pry it off, that might damage your paint. There will be adhesive left on the paint that will come off easily with WD-40. Another option is to take it back to the dealer and tell them to remove it.

I would get the wife's hairdryer out and run it over the emblem on ho or high for a few minutes to loosen the glue, then a piece of fishing line or good dental floss and just slide it back and forth as you pull it from one side to the other. Then some Goo Gone will get the remaining glue off.

Call dealer and insist they remove it. I wouldn't even take delivery with the dealer emblem on the car!!!

If it is on with just adhesive spray with WD-40 and use some fishing line wrapped around your fingers like and work it back and for with a sawing motion to remove. Then more WD-40 on a rag with your fingernail to remove the rest of adhesive. Then just wash area and wax it.

Another vote for BWFO7's suggestion of the hair dryer. It's always worked great for me. Follow up with Goo Gone or even regular paint thinner (mineral spirits) to remove the residue. Paint thinner will NOT hurt your finish at all.

hairdryer works well, I dont take delivery as well with their advertising on the car.
In the old days they would soft rivet them on leaving holes in your car, glad those days are gone.

correction. paint thinner will hurt your finish but you may not see any difference. simply wash and wax the area after using thinner. I regularly wiped down entire cars with paint thinner before buffing/waxing them to remove surface contaminants. It will simply look "streaky" until you wash and wax the area.

Hard to believe some dumb @$$ dealer would not hesitate disfiguring a Corvette just to put his shiny name on it... uncanny.
As said before, I would have told them to remove that crap before accepting delivery.
Good luck with the dryer, let us know how you did!

If the floss won't cut it, use 8/10 lb fishing line. Saw it back and forth.

When I said it will not hurt your finish I meant it would not eat into the paint like Lacquer thinner would or similar solvents. BeforeVOC standards many cleaning products contained mineral spirits or naphtha. I would use it to spot clean adhesive transfer from tape or decals then as you say I would wash and wax or seal the area as the thinner probably removed any finish that you had there anyway.
