Looking at a 2005
Hi,
I've owned a 60, 63 and a 77 Corvette, and currently still own 2 E Types and a Mustang GT. I've been looking for a C2 for a few years and can't find exactly what I'm looking for so I've kind of decided that a 2005 -2012 would suit my needs. I'm going to look at a 2005 today with 18000 or so miles. I've read {not sure it it's true} that the 2005 cars aren't as well sorted out as the 2006 and newer cars are...is there any truth to that? I will probably have to pay in the very low 30's and at that price point I don't want to have to fix anything. I just want a super reliable driver. Should I be looking for 2006 and newer?
Thanks for your advice because I know very little about the newer Vettes.

I own an 05....it's been a great car. Really no major issues, other than some of the recall items that you will find by searching the Forum site. Generally, the consensus, I've seen here, is that the preferred car would be the post 05 cars, simply because GM worked out some of the initial bugs. My guess is that the 05 you are looking at has already had those addressed. The big thing you probably want to find out is the harmonic balancer has been replaced. Oh....and they beefed up the rear end in the 06's and beyond.

What do you think about this other car I'm going to look at today...same dealer.
It's a 2012 coupe under 2k miles, 6sp, and is at a dealer. Asking price is $41 and is a 1LT car. Of course, has the balance of warranty still in effect. What would be a fair price for this car. It's that darker grey color...not exactly my favorite color but I like the super low miles.

I'm with MGretz70 go for the 2013 all the improvements all the warranty. To many recalls weak diff on 2005 for my taste.If you need a supplier cert let me know if you needed it for further discount at criswell are any new dealer. Where are you located look at forum dealer pricing some are cheaper than others. Reliable Mo. Boardwalk Calif.

I have an 05 with 65k miles with Zero problems -- drive it to work and auto-x a few times a year so it is driven "like its supposed to be" so I think there is nothing to fear with the 05 --- but it should sell for around < $25k with those miles. I agree with the others, if you can do $40k get a brand new 13 1lt -- lots available out there.

You didn't say if the 05 was a manual or auto. If auto, the 05's came with the 4 speed and subsequent models have a six speed. Personally, I would look for an 08 or newer model. They come with the LS3 engine. Not a huge difference but some.

My 05 is trouble free. Just make sure the computer was reflashed. The rear was beefed up in 2006 but for the average driver (no big mods), the 05 rear should be just fine.
Incredible deals on the 05 but if you have cash burning a hole in your pocket, get the 2012.

My 2005 I had since new. Mildly modded pushing 430 RWHP. Do you know how many times I had issues with the "weak differential" in the 8 years I owned it?
ZERO.
Don't get caught up too much on the differential. Yes it was beefed up in the 06 models and up. Does that mean it is going to fail on you? No. If you plan on pushing 600 RWHP, ok maybe you will blow up the differential in the 05. But if you are planning on leaving it stock or some mild mods, you will completely fine.

It is that greyish metallic color, gorgeous black interior, manual trans, 1LT model but it does have the plastic see-through roof. What would be a fair/good price to pay for that car. Warranty is good until 2017. Car is absolutely pristine.

try and get the '12 for 39k... (or at least a little under 40k) Print out the one from the other dealer and show them that you can get a new '13 for 40, and ask why would you pay that for a used '12 with 1600 miles? maybe they'll agree....

Both Vette's are a little over priced. My first question is, do both cars have the options you want? How do the options compare on the 05 vs the 13? The year and mileage is important and so are the options. You have to compare apples to apples.
If other dealer are selling 1LT's for 39K, you should get a used one for less, even though it only has a few miles on it. By the way, that is a ridiculously low price. I looked at the 2LT's and they are selling at Criswells for 47K, that has my options but its too much for me to spend at this time.

I love the car. The price is right if it's a convertible, May be 2-3k less for the coupe mode. Just my $.02 here, but I see no reason Not to get an 05 model. I have no issues with it, and it looks like any other

Another satisfied 05 customer here.
The steering lock should have been removed on recall, no issue to be had there.
I agreed that over 33k is overpriced, I paid much less for mine, but it has 40k. Miles are expensive on vettes.
If your budget can reach the 40's, then go new, why bother?
