Default Side vent mesh inserts

Anybody install side vent grille inserts WITHOUT having to jack up the car and removing the tires and inside plastic panel? Most sites I've checked all say to jack up the car, remove the wheel and remove the inner plastic panel. There has to be an easier way of putting them on than this. And I sold my jack so that rules that out.

probably depends also on which ones you're installing as there are plenty aftermarket units out there.
I did the oem's, got a good deal on the bay.

did not take the wheels of or jack it up.
took a while, arms were pretty scratched, lost one metal clip in there (no idea where it went) but worked just fine overall.

went by the instructions that came with it and the info in this thread http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...with-pics.html , unfortunately the pics don't work there but there were some detailed descriptions.

Any mesh insert that's installed from inside the fender, be it OEM using pins, or glued-in aftermarket, you have open up the fender liner to get them inside.

I think APsis makes one that mounts from the outside and has a trim ring attached.

I got mine from American Car Craft. Easy to install from the outside.

I ordered some to install on my new 427. I still haven't installed them because it is way to difficult. I was able to install them on my 2006 without having to take the wheels off. Not the case with the newer car.
The screens are sitting in the box in my laundry room. They will most likely never get on my car.
That sucks.

I wish....., maybe some day I can afford to have this problem too

seriously, did not know these fit 427 too but really, taking off the wheel if needed (or maybe paying a few bucks to a shop/dealer) doesn't sound that bad to me

So if you want to install a screen but only from the outside, try this (at your own risk ).

Buy grille screens from RaceMesh. Excellent company/ products/customer service/etc.

They just glue onto the backside of the cove vent.

Use a couple nylon cable ties attached to the screen to maneuver it around inside the vent and to dangle it while the glue is applied to the cove vent's flange.

Then pull the screen into position and secure it as pictured below, until the glue has set.

Some cleanup/trimming of excess glue will most likely be required, but if you use silicone, it should be relatively easy.

I believe it comes down to the fact, "Do you want to do it correctly"? I installed a vent cove screen and even led lights, by just turning the wheel, removing the access panel behind wheel, and reaching my arm in there. Some minor scratches and cuts. Then during the winter I decided to do it correctly. I removed the fender, I cut out my own chrome scheen with a dremel, and installed. I also reinstalled the led lights. I also cut out and installed the same chrome mesh behind my grille and over the fog lights. And yes, I removed the bumper to do this. If your going to do it, do it right.

I just turned my wheels to make room to get to the wheel well. Popped out the main row of plastic pins. Then pulled back the wheel well enough to reach in and install them. It is tight!
