C5 owner looking at a C6. How does this sound to you?
Hello, all!
I've owned Vettes for 21 years -- first a 1992 coupe (purchased new) and now, a 2004 MN6 coupe. Always the bargain hunter, I'm looking for clearance-priced new C6 Vettes. I bought my new C5 just before the C6 arrived and saved lots of money. With the C7 nearly here, I'm on the prowl.
Here's a car that's available at a Chevy dealer that I've purchased many cars from over the last two decades. They are not thieves. The car is a 'new' 2012 (yep, that's 2012, not 2013) Grand Sport convertible, MN 6 with 4LT package. As far as I can tell, it has every option except auto transmission and colored brake calipers (it appears to me that standard caliper color on GS is sliver, and that's what this car has.)
MSRP on the car is $78,100. They are offering this car for $58,900.
Here's the rub: The owner of the dealership has driven this car, and there are about 2800 miles on it. I've looked this sled over three times, and it still looks perfect to me. Even the air damn looks undamaged. The owner must weigh less than 100 lb. because the driver's seat doesn't have any of the all-too-common driver's seat lower bolster creases and wrinkles that appear all too quickly. The paint, supersonic blue, isn't all full of scratches and swirls -- and I've seen this car in its current non-detailed condition.
I've been assured that if I purchase this car, I will receive full factory warranty as well as full freebie periods for Sirius/XM and OnStar. This car has never been titled and is technically still new.
I've read that GS stock tires have a somewhat limited life, so they are indeed used.
Treating this Vette like it is a USED car, I priced it using Edmunds, KBB and NADA. These are all dealership RETAIL prices.
Edmunds: $61,051 certified. (With 2800 miles, it would be certified)
KBB: $60,792
NADA: $60,600
What sweetens the deal IMHO, they offered me $25,000 for my silver 2004 coupe. Admittedly, my car is low mileage and very, clean, but it is 9 years old. No mechanical mods, but is does have a Vette Essentials custom interior. (And I do realize that we should not expect higher values for mods, and that certain mechanical mods can actually lower the value.)
Trade-in values, 2004 coupe:
Edmunds: $15,720 (ouch, friggin' cruel!)
NADA: $21,025
KBB: $25,000
This pic is from the Vette Essential website, but mine looks just like this.
$33,900 would be the final price (w/out tax, plates, etc.) So, what do you think? All opinions greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

25K for a 2004 is pretty good. They must have some mark up in their car.
I couldn't imagine paying 25K for an older car when you could buy a C6 for less.
My 2007 was 23K OTD.

It's not great, but it's worth it. Go for it.

I think this is a sweet deal especially with the trade in amount. I'd move on it if you love the car.
Fwiw...I do.
Best of luck

Sounds like a very fair deal for everyone. Brand new for the price of a low mileage used one and full retail for your trade. Regardless of the fact that they might be making some money somewhere, they are entitled, that is their business. The bottom line, very fair deal for you. I wouldn't even think twice about it. Go for it, enjoy the new Vette!

With all the detail and analysis you have provided, it sounds like a very fair deal. And the step up from 2004 to a 2012 is very significant - as well as the step up from a coupe to a vert.
If you want that 2012, I would think you will not find a better deal, imho.

25k is great for trade in and the price for the GS is fair for only having 2800 miles and never been titled. I know what you said in your narrative, BUT just make sure before you sign, that the warranty starts at the 2800 mile mark. There was a big debate on this a few weeks ago and many think it starts earlier that whats on the clock at signing.... I believe it does start when YOU title it, but just make sure. Good luck

Decent deal, your getting alot for yours on trade so go for it. I went from a 99 to a 13 Grand Sport, amazing car. My GS cost me $31k after my C5 was sold but it's only a 1LT coupe..

$25K for the trade-in is a MAJOR incentive. If you’re happy with the ’12 then go for it.

I wouldn't pay any attention to book or internet values. Sounds like you keep your cars for a long time so instant resell value does not matter.
All I can say is why didn't you buy it yet?

Not sure it is all that good a deal. A year ago Feb. I traded a 2002 auto coupe with 19,000 miles and most options for a 2012 4LT, cent. edition, 6sp stick convert. with 4 miles that listed for more then $78,000 for an out the door trade (all taxes and fees) for about $58,500. Since the car you are looking at is a demo, ie., used car, I would offer $53,000 with all fees.
You had an out the door deal for $58,500 - the Op is speaking of an out the door deal for $35,000 ish. Why are you saying it's not all that good a deal?

Deleted my original message. I didn't see your last line below the pictures. They are trying to sell their demo (used car) for somewhat below average retail price and are offering you high trade-in for yours and they think that is fair? What is the average retail for yours and the average trade-in value for theirs? The real difference in value between the cars is the difference in trade-in values of the two cars or the difference in retail value not the difference in trade-in for yours and retail for theirs. The high trade-in for their used car is probably around $49,000-$52,000 (guessing). So the difference in real value is around $28,500 ($52,000 minus $23,500). Add $1,000 for profit means the trade should go for about $29,500 to maybe $30,000. You will need to work out the actual trade-in value for the 2012 and actual final numbers before going to the dealer. It may turn out to be closer to their figure, but I doubt it. If they won't take it, walk. You can always sell your car for the retail value and find a low mileage vette somewhere else at less then asking retail. I doubt if you will have to walk far. Good luck.

Include Loyalty rebate?
Does that $58k price include the $3k Loyalty rebate or is that another 3k off the price?
Sounds like they are getting the Loyalty rebate which makes the car $61k, not 58k.

I agree. It looks like they're throwing extra $$ they have on the 2012 into the trade value of my 2004. It's a nice car, but it's 9 years old, and as others have stated here, $25K is clearly in C6 used car price territory.
AND THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR INPUT. YOU'RE ALL HELPING ME A LOT!
