I have a wax question with respect to my 2010 Black Grand Sport. The car is mostly garaged (not a daily driver), does not see rain and has never seen snow. I am intrigued with the products advertised as Black Wax for black cars. I want to believe black waxes are made for and specifically designed for black paint, yet I don't understand how a black wax improves the black paint considering the clear coat lying on top.
I'm interested in comments, pro or con, regards black wax on a clear coat with the underlying paint color being black.
It's probably just a little hype. I too have a black '10 GS so I know what you're talking about. What I think is the biggest difference is the lack of white residue in the hard to get at places - cracks and seams. With the black wax, unless I wear some sort of rubber/latex gloves I will have black hands that are hard to get clean... What I have been buying and using is Eagle One Gel Wax - no white residue. It works well. I'm sure others will have different suggestions. http://eagleone.com/gel-wax-with-carnauba

Good Luck!
I was using the Eagle One Gel (on a 2010 Black GS vert) and decided to give Meguirs Black Wax a try - whether it was just my imagination or it really worked I think that the shine with the Meguirs was deeper and seems to last longer - also no white residue. Have not had a problem with my fingers turning black when I wax.
Black wax is just hype. They may be changing around the formulations a little to look better on black, but probably the biggest thing you're seeing is tinted fillers in the wax.
Get a high quality carnauba like Pinnacle Souveran, Megs #26, or something like that and prepare to be amazed. And keep in mind, a lot of people simply don't like the look of a carnauba as much as of a synthetic sealant. My GC was a metallic black, and looked way nicer (to me) with a synthetic than a carnauba. We had a black PT Cruiser that was a solid black that positively glowed under a really nice carnauba wax as well, so try a few and stick with what you like.
I use to have a triple black Z06. I used one kit and it work great. My wife bought me another kit, but before I used it, I sold my 2004, for a silver 2005 Z06. If you want to try it and not invest too much, I'll sell you my unused kit for 10 bucks! My email is RJB34@msn.com

I don't know about the other manufacturers but, Meguiar's Black Wax just has more oils in it to provide a deeper shine that many prefer on black and dark colored cars. It has no dyes! I have tried it on my wife's brown Porsche and it didn't really leave any impression on me one way of the other. Everything said in the post above sums up things nicely.
I'll tell you this Black Wax I tried after Barry Meguiar at car show, recommended his product to me, before was using Pinnacle. I love the way the car shines with Black Wax. The car doesn't pick up any glaze and looks like mirror.
I tried the meguires black wax. I didn't like it. I prefer meguires NXT2.0 and recently just waxed my black '10 GS with Mothers synthetic wax with great results!!

This is what I'm talking about. People prefer different looks.
Some people like the super glossy, super reflective look of a sealant like NXT, SynWax, Zaino, etc. Others prefer the warmer, wetter deeper look of a carnauba.
If you really want to impress yourself, buy a glaze and put that on your car, then top with a sealant or durable carnauba. The Glaze has all those fillers and oils that make the cars really look amazing, and it will be protected by a nice layer of whatever you choose.

Yeah, what's wrong about a 2005 Z06? I had an 02. They came out in 01.
Anyhow, I tried the black stuff on my black 02 and it's all hype. I started with the Adam's line and never looked back. Best darn stuff out there IMO. And they just keep improving. Plus they're ALL MADE IN AMERICA! That alone should be enough to switch if you're using something else.
BUY AMERICAN PEOPLE!
OOOPS! My mistake. I forgot.........they didn't make a Z in 05. You are correct sir.

Wolf is the measure on this board to dictate how black should look. I have also had good luck with the Ice series by Turtle and NXT is okay by Meg's...a bit average IMHO. A pro got me a bottle of Ardex Viper and this is what I hit my car with to bring a "trade in" good clean shine.
