OnStar Module VCIM Replacement
My OnStar/VCIM died in my 07 vert. For your information, the unit is located in the trunk, passenger side cubby, behind the carpet insert. I found another one out of an 08 coupe that was being parted out. Installed in my car and everything fired right up perfectly. Voice commands for the nav work fine. When I pushed the button for OnStar they came on and I was able to talk to an agent. The problem is that it's showing my 07 vert as the 08 coupe the module came out of.
Here is my dilemma..I can't get a straight answer on how to get the Station ID from the module matched to my VIN. OnStar is saying that the dealer has to do it. One dealer confirmed and another said all you have to do is call OnStar Tech Support and have them transfer your VIN to that Station ID in their database. Dealer wants $200 just to get it matched.
The info I have found out is the only information burned into the module firmware is the Station ID, Tracking, and ESN numbers. I haven't found anything where there is a VIN burned into the module.
Has anyone had to change a unit out and did you have to get the dealer to do anything?
