Default New Black Wheels

I just bought myself a 2013 GS with the black wheels. It looked so sharp in the show room! Didn't think there would be so much maintenance with these black wheels...after every drive the black wheels in the front turn into a brownish color from all the brake dust. Any others out there have this same problem? What solution have you found to be the best way in coping with this?

Sound like you guys need new brake pads. I use the Hawk pads and they produce very little brake dust over stock pads. I have black wheels and hardly ever see any brake dust after long periods of driving between washes.

Get some AC Delco Ceramics... almost no dust and good price/performance (for the street)

I had the same problem on my '13 GS with black rims. Switch to ceramic pads and that will get rid of most of the dust and help keep the rims looking like new. If you plan on going to the track, such as an HDPE event, then switch back to the stock brakes for that day.

Armor All "Wheel Protectant" helps until you change to a different pad as suggested in the post.

We hear this all of the time with GS brakes. We suggest Hawk ceramics. That will cut down on the dust

I couldn't take the dusting anymore after about 1000 miles. Switched to Hawk Ceramics. Cut down the dust by about 75%. Good product and easy install. 12,000 miles now and brake dust is almost non-existent.

AC Delco Ceramics aren't made for GS or z06. I have another brand of ceramic pads for my GS brakes and they still dust like crazy. No comparison to base brakes

Black wheels are a lot harder to keep clean than a black car.

My '13 Z has the black "cup" wheels and I know just how much PITA they are to keep clean. I have installed ceramic brake pads and now the problem is a thing of the past. If you are not going to track the car, GET CERAMIC PADS!! (I tried the "protectant"; it was a joke/waste of money)

Put a couple coats of Rejex on them and at least the dust won't stick and you can spray it off with a hose. I have chrome Spyders and I just spray them off and wipe them down with a towel after every drive and they look like new. I have about 4 coats of Rejex on the front end and the bugs come right off with the hose. That Rejex is slick stuff......literally.

Thanks for all the advice! You guys are all great! When I asked the Chevy service dept the other day they said that the dust is common since the vehicle is brand new, they said that you won't see it once the brake pads are worn in (I highly doubt that!). I will jump on those Hawk ceramics if I don't see the dust gone in the next few miles of driving!

Might want to think about the Carbotech 1521 as well.

The Carbotech™ 1521™ is our high performance street compound. The 1521™ compound is known for its release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. 1521™ is also a very low dusting and low noise compound with an excellent initial bite. This compound's excellent linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Carbotech™ 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 800°F (426°C+). 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle or fleet vehicle. Carbotech™ 1521™ is NOT recommended for ANY track use.
