So, we have a fully loaded convertible '05 Vette with the Z51 package and 6 speed. Thought it was worth something huh? Had it appraised at the dealership for trade in and they offered only 8K? does have 90K miles, but KBB trade for the exact same car in "Fair" condition is 19K WTF! Insulted! This is my wife's daily driver and was considering to upgrade to a Grand Sport with less miles. Really? Both wife and car are insulted! LOL
they dont offer much on trade in. better off selling it on craigslist. i'm on my 7th vet, only traded in my 75 because it needed work. that worked out. remember to them it's only a vehicle. it has no sentimental value. good luck.
When we trade I do my research and figure out what I'm willing to pay for the difference between the two cars. How they get there, whether it's lowering the new car's value, increasing the trade in value, or some combination I don't care. Concentrating solely on what they'll give you for trade in value and getting insulted is a mistake. If they're heavily discounting the GS it may still be a good deal even with the low trade value.
That's ridiculous. When I traded my 02 Z in last year, they started at $18,000. Came up to a little over $26,000. to get me to buy the car. $8000 for an 05? I'll take it off your hands for that much!!
That finance mgr is a dbag. That's beyond insulting. I have sold many cars online on eBay and autotrader. You could list your vette for twice the trade "offer" on autotrader and probably sell it the same day. Fastest car I ever sold on autotrader sold in 30 min after posting the ad. I work as a credit analyst/underwriter part time and I know first hand some of the stuff finance mgrs pull. If you can get an approx auction price on your car it's a good estimate of fair trade in value. I had a friend that use to work at a large local auto auction and he had an auction price guide that was a great help when selling or trading cars. You can't always go by kbb, edmunds or nada because the numbers are all across the board.

Just sold a car on craigslist. Carmax offered me $4500 -- way too low. Sold it on craigslist for $6400.
why would you get mad? You know stealerships always are gonna try to rip you off. Thats what they do. All you have to do is tell them no thank you and go to a different dealer. What people forget is there are plenty of dealers out there to choose from. If you dont like one place go to another. If you dont want to waste time and effort take the 8 grand and move on. Personally I would at least try 3 different dealers. Little effort can save you some big money.
Not all dealerships are bad but that guy obviously thinks you're not very bright. I bought a new 12 GS centennial edition last October and traded a loaded 02 vert with just under 80k on it and after GM family pricing and all discounts got 16,500 for my car. I know I could have sold my car for more myself but with all of the incentives it was a deal I couldn't pass on. Keep looking you'll find a dealer willing to be fair.
since you've been on here for six years, I still won't assume you know of forum dealers. you've got some not too far away. you may want to talk to them.
If you're going to trade, the trade difference is all that matters. If they're $11k below what you're car is worth, figure out the real world value of the car you want to buy and offer $11k less than that. If they look at you like you're crazy, tell them you simply did they same thing they did.
