If you are referring to the shades that are made of a black fabric that attach to the hatch, then yes, they work. I had one in by C5 and now my C6. I also like them because if you have anything in the rear storage area it is out of sight.

Never used it in my 05 & 07. Tried it in my 12 and now I wouldn't go without it.
Just run a rod through the bottom flap and cap it off on both ends. It helps stop it from flapping with the windows open. Not a cure all but it does help some.
ordered the one with the C6 logo on it, but with the window tint it is not that visible, if your windows are tinted, you may be able to save a buck or two and just get a pain one.

Buy a steel rod from the hardware store, slide it though the small pocket on the end of the short flap. It works wonders in stopping the flapping of the cover in the wind...
I've got one that came with my car. Don't know if it was a new car option or an add-on. Regardless, it works well and I've never had a problem with it popping out (the one on my 91 3000 GT was hard to keep in).
It also has a flap a few inches behind the front seats that keeps everything out of sight inside the car as well.
I really like mine. Keeps people from seeing anything that I might have in the cargo area. Like others I also have a 1/4" rod in the hem of the flap that hangs down with rubber caps on the ends (got it all at Lowes). Then I have the ends attached to retractable name badge holders so that it does flap around with top top off and keeps tension on it when I open the hatch. One inexpensive addition that is well worth it to me

LV or Lisa. Once you have the rod place in the flap do you find it necessary or just optional to have it attached to the retractable device..??
I use a 3/8" wooden dowel rod, which isn't that heavy, so it flopped in the wind when I had the top off. The retractables keep the flap taught, so it doesn't flap in the wind anymore.
I previously had a metal rod installed, it was heavy and didn't flop, but I didn't feel good about having something so heavy and dangerous behind my seat.

Thanks for the clarification. Understand your point about the metal rod....!!!
