Anyone know how to inset the mov so it plays directly from the post?
The monitor's from ebay and the sellers answer no questions prior to the sale, hardly afterwards. I questioned them for almost 8 months now, nothing. Comes with no setup instructions, though basics connections are easy, the setting of how far it opens and closing position I had to mux about with.
You watch movies just by turning on a video source that is plugged into the video Y collector. It opens/turns on when a video signal is detected. I've put an RCA 'Y' connector in, so that I can video out to the monitor while the audio goes to/through the PAL setup for movies. Turn off the movie (power) and it closes back up.

That's pretty freakin' cool... I'd like info on the ebay seller as well please. I've got two 4" & 5" monitors sitting in my garage as I can't find an acceptable mounting location... I was tempted to do the sun visor install as another CF member posted about, but it's such a project. If this drop down monitors comes and just works.... then I'm in for that. let me know. Thanks for posting.
Who not just buy a headunit that has rear back up cam in it? Thats what I did. Have the same backup camera as you, but I also have a Kenwood DDX 719 head unit.
Do you work for the "CIA" or "FBI" ... I only ask because you deleted your plate #..
Mine is ILEGAL NY plate.. I sure hope someone don't go and get my plate, & track me down & come & burglarize my house or STEAL my car...
Maybe they may even "Kidnap" my wife and hold her for RANSOME...
All those problems because I posted my plate... I should have taken a hint from you... NO ONE will ever find you
I work in the forensic business and never, knowingly give out info which could be used to locate my family or me. To many parole's out and about. Bad enough to meet up with them unexpectedly in the grocery.

For me because a nice new head unit is $1000+ installed. The backup cam was $30 on amazon.. just trying to find a sleek way to install a monitor.. I like the OP's solution.
Of course if you're looking to upgrade your stereo anyway, then it's a no brainer, but I'm not really riding my vette to listen to music. I like the sound of the car!
I took the mirror down and mounted the bracket on the underside of the mirror mounting assembly. There is a small plastic 'face' plate on the mirror assembly mounting bracket which easily comes out. You can see I have removed the plastic face plate of the OEM mounting assembly. I drilled three holes in the assembly and three to the fab'd mounting bracket I made up. Several holes on the 'plate' of the fab'd bracket, matched those holes to the monitor and drilled the monitor mounting holes.
Painted and mounted the fab'd bracket, and then mounted the monitor.
Initially I made a small back plate with three holes which fit into the inside of the main mirror mount, but discovered the mirror OEM mount is aluminum so I did not need it.
The mirror was removed to do all this, and I had Chevy put it back on - cheap. I could not get it pressed enough myself.

It's 'pretty much' just fab up a bracket for mounting.
The monitor is setup for mounting to the dash and lifts 'up' to view, so I had to take off the front facing of the monitor, pull the screen out to detach the small PCB board and reattach that to the other (inner) side of the housing, then 180 turn the screen and put back in. Then also 180 the front facing and reattach. 10 minutes.
The bracket and OEM bracket mod'ing took the most time.
before i saw the video I thought, this is stupid and a waste of time because i would never sit there and wait for the display to fold down and then back up... BUT that thing is quick!!! I bet it's even quicker than a HU that has to switch display when put in reverse.. Great job!!!!
Very clever solution. I have a B/U camera linked to a Kenwood system, but yours is a much lower cost answer.
I have never figured out the blanking of license plates on a forum. When you are driving down the road everyone behind you can write it down or take a pic, or just follow you to your home. So how do you protect yourself from that exposure?
