Got into car at work today at lunch time and DIC tells me that right front tire is flat and not to drive over 55. The right front tire was not flat. When I got to the first traffic light I shut down and restarted, no more TPMS message and my pressures showed 30psi on all 4 tires. My car is a 2005 with 24,000 miles. What is the life of the TPMS sensors? I need new tires soon should I replace all 4?
We went on a road trip several months ago and I had the DIC show the RF warning, I checked the pressure and it was dead on,drove another 15 miles and the warning went out, this weekend same thing happened same TPMS. I have Nitrogen in my tires ,not sure if that has anything to do with it.
I had the same issue with my 2012 with like 2k miles on it. I was on a road trip when this happened. I turned the car of and on several times to no avail. I checked the air pressure manually and it was dead on. I got home with the same error. The following morning the message was gone.
First thing I would try is to reprogram the sensors and see if that solves the problem.
The process I believe, is a little different for the 2005 but the newer years it is a pretty easy task any tire store can do as they should all have the tool to do it.
I read somewhere that they are designed to last at least 5 years. I was on a road trip in my 08 Z in 2011 and one went dead, would read XXX. A little while later the PSI would come back. The dealer replaced it under warranty.
I don't know what you mean by the DIC tells you that the RF tire was flat. If the PSI read XXX the computer lost reception from that sensor.

If I were replacing tires on a 2005 I would replace the sensors too, since it's a convenient opportunity to do it. Typical lifetime is 8 to 10 years, ymmv.

TPMS life span is 5-7 years. Sounds like your RF Tpms is starting to go bad. When 1 sensor goes bad the rest are soon to follow. You can just replace one sensor at a time. I would replace when given the opportunity. In your case replacing with new tire is the best time to replace TPMS. I had a customer who replace just one sensor the other day called me a day later say this sensor is not working. Come to find out he had 2 more sensors go bad and the new one was transmitting just fine.
The Left Front TPMS on my 2006 posts a Flat Tire message every once in a while. I'm replacing tires soon so I ordered 4 new TPMS sensors. I think he said they'd be about $49 each.
My rr sensor is giving me the xxx warning, on my 07' coupe. It started a month ago. I disconnected the battery and it went away, but, came back on with a few miles of driving. I'm really apprehensive about having it replaced because of possible wheel damage to my chrome wheels. I know it has to be done, but, the horror stories about wheel damage scare me.
By the way, nothing seems to be affected with the handling of the car. It drives as usual. I guess I'll bite the bullet soon and get it done. This sucks, for me. It's the first problem I've had!

I had just installed a new set of Michelin ps2zp's on my chrome rims and had a roadforce balance done when my sensor failed. The tech at the GM dealer was able to just break the bead at the sensor location and not take the tire off. He didn't even move the tire. He was able to change the sensor and not disturb the balance. Chrome rim remained unharmed!
