When in traffic.... You know how it goes, slow slow slow and then you star to move a little ... You see a slow down coming let off the gas coast a bit and then it gets going again so foot back on pedal and a clunk or thud will *some times* happen... Occasionally will do it when I let off gas as well.
Most always at slower speeds, usually 5mph to 30 mph or so..
Is this an '06 base coupe ls2 with z51 thing? I've heard some guys saying the tranny was weird at times, or is maybe something more concerning?
Could fall into the 'normal' noise category. Small amount of driveline lash in the gears? Only 'non-normal' thing comes to mind is maybe broken motor mount? Worn suspension/tranny/diff mount bushing?
i was thinking it might be "normal" noise... I just dont remember it before. Of course I've had the car 11 months, it had 154 miles on it when I purchased, so maybe its just part of the breaking in and now normal process?
I have a 3 year/ 30k GM warranty on it, think its worth taking in, or wasting my time?
I have an '06 automatic and I have the same thing. Usually hear it when slowing down for traffic and then giving it some gas, I feel like it's a hard shift. I took it to my dealer and they said it was normal, not sure if I believe that.

Check your rear axle nuts and see if they are tight. My 05 A-4 was making that clunking noise. I bought two from Jim Ellis Chevrolet replaced them and that took care of my clunking noise. I believe the torque number is 118 lb. Ft. or 160 N.m.

That is what I was worried about, they would say "normal" my warranty expires and then.... Normal = 2k...
The clunk in my 2008 rear diff was fixed with the new gen rear diff fluid that had a new friction modifier that fixed the "clunk." Not sure if that helps you or not but it came to mind.

Wasn't this to fix a clunk when turning? I don't have a noise when turning, it happens when accelerating after slowing down but only at slower speeds. Mine is used, can anybody verify it makes this clunk when they bought the car new?
I have it too, '06 A6 28k miles. I think it's normal but i hate it. I think it's in the tranny and was going to get a fluid/filter change soon to see if it helps, but overall not a "problem" IMO...
Changing the differential fluid can certainly help the problem with chatter when turning at a slow speed ... But the OP does not have that problem. All he has is a slight 'clunk' sound when very lightly tapping on and off the throttle at very low speed.
As others have said; that clunk sound your hearing is just the slack in the differential / axles .... it's normal.
But, as others have said, if it is extreme, it may be a result of loose axle nuts (but, I am betting that the OP don't have loose axle nuts).

If the clunking noise happens when turning at slow speeds, it might be the sway bar end links. I had those changed and the noise was gone. Also, the new GM differential fluid solved a clunking noise from the gears.

My "clunk" is definitely coming from the tranny. Like said earlier, it's the "slack" when re-engaging a gear that you let coast like coming to a red light then hitting the gas again because it turned green before full stop. I am thinking it's normal, but may be helped with new oil and filter (but that's just a guess....)
