Gesh, forgive me. Was driving home the other day in some serious twisties and noticed my sweaty palms were slippery on the steering wheel. Thought some decent driving gloves would be a little more sticky.
Can someone please tell me the benefits of driving gloves over your bare hands? Living in Minnesota and being forced to wear gloves in the winter, I cant imagine why anyone would voluntarily choose to do so.
When I was doing HPDE in our previous car, I wore Nomex gloves that gave a good grip and also protection in case of fire (we wore long clothes, all cotton or Nomex).
For low hazard events like autocross, I preferred to use bare hands because that's what I drive with on the street.

Seriously? If you're driving so fast you're giving yourself sweaty plams, then that ought to trigger a response to slow it down. Wanna go fast? Come play on a real race track like many of us do. There's not a set of twisties anywhere that compares to being on a real race track for several hours.
Obviously the posts that made fun of the OP don't ever track their cars. If they did they would know just how sweaty your hands get. Try Alpinestar or Fox. They both make a clarino glove that will work nicely. If you want something specifically for track use check out saferacer.com

Yes tracking your car...not driving on some twisty roads. Tell me op if you were driving say an hyundai elantra on some twisties and your palms were sweating would you still want racing gloves?
^ I believe I can answer your question. The benefit of them is that, your Smoking Jacket, Silk Ascot and Pipe are such a fashion failure, without your Driving Gloves.

Hey! That's Steve McQueen. Right-hand drive Jag XKE?
RE: Driving gloves. The idea does kind'a sound 60ish, ala John Steed (Avengers) or James Bond/Austin Powers, but I have actually entertained the idea of using gloves in the convertible when it's hot and humid to minimize the sweat/salt stains on the leather steering wheel cover. Honestly didn't know if the oils/salt from my palms would eventually discolor and damage the leather over years of driving. That...and they'd make me REALLY FAST!!!
