Pick a purchase (Z06 versus Grand Sport)

So here's the question... Which car would you buy? 2009 Z06 1LZ or a 2012 Centennial GS 3LZ with ride control. They are both 10k in miles and both are just under $50k in price. Both appear to be in excellent condition. The Z has new Michelin rubber.
I am a self proclaimed gear head that has owned many cars including racecars but not yet a Corvette, so I wanted to open the question up to all the experts here at the site to assist this corvette virgin...

My vote: Z06 hands down.
If i was buying one, i would negotiate the potential valve issue in the price. The valves can also be checked prior to purchase by the dealer. If interested, see the Z06 forum for more info.
Good luck in your hunting!

One of the most common comebacks on this forum. No matter what you do to this Vette it will always be a GS. The Z Vettes are in a different league no matter what the generation. Not a Z elititist just a gearhead.

Very easy, a no brainer... The Grand Sport Cent. Edition is the WINNER (not even close).
I would take a Grand Sport any day over a Z06 (those Z06's are everywhere)... Plus you got those Z06 engine problems that people keep talking about that could cause future problems.
Another good thing about the Grand Sport is you get the open top if you want to enjoy it.
And what makes it even better, its a NEWER model year Grand Sport than the older Z06.
AND its the very popular and collectible 100th Anniv. Cent. Edition.

Wanted to follow up with an update on my choice to purchase a Z06 over a Grand Sport. Love the car. It is a beast. First thing I did was to perform a leak down test on the engine. The worst cylinder was 2% @ 100 psig. Second thing was to go out and pull some gears and G's.... I am sure I would have loved the 2012 Grand Sport, but I have no regrets with the Z06. Just need to find some more Corvette owners in OKC to go play with. BTW~ All of the comments presented on my thread was awesome... Thank you..

The Z06 is a great car as id the GS, so it really comes down to what your intended use for it will be. If you go by what is always stated when ithis question comes up, it is always buy the newest with the least amount of miles.
The Z is great if you plan to track the car the GS has more creature comforts and it is newer. For the street 430/436 HP is more then you will ever need. The Z does have that special something and you do see a lot more GS's then you do Z06's, so I guess it is really up to you.
Good luck and I don't think you will be unhappy with either one.

Cool for the OP!
I bought an '09 Z06, and now have 80,000+mi. on it and have never regretted it.
Safe, happy, and fun driving!
