Default Which C6 wil be the most collectible?

Now that the C7 is on its way and the C6 is in the books, what model or models do you think will be the most saught after? What will be people consider the most collectible version 30 years from now?

ZR1, Z06/Z07, 427 convert, GS, Z51 and editions like the Ron fellows, carbon, GT1 champ, centennial, 427 cooksey... The list goes on.

(Apologies if this has already been discussed in another thread, couldn't find one in search)

Being that the 427 Convertible was a one year only car (only 2552 built) and the fact that it is the most powerful Corvette Convertible ever made....I would say the 427 Convertible.

My vote for most collectible would be the ZR1. King of the hill is always going to be attractive to collectors.

Could very well be....it is the most powerful Corvette ever built. That alone and low build #s too!

I don't think most of us will still be alive when any of them are collectable enough to save for that reason.

You're probably right Gary, although the '96 Grand Sports have been keeping their value and are still highly collectable.

IMO... 427 then ZR1. They made a lot more ZR1s, and made them over a greater span of years. The rarity will be what makes it more collectible. If you look at the C4, the Grand Sport is the more collectible car over the ZR1 because of the lower production years and numbers, despite not being as high performance.

...but then again, how many of us thought the (good condition) C2s would be what they are today, in terms of collectibility ?

Quite a few of us were around when those were introduced...

Nothing truly special about the 427 Convertibles other than the limited run, and that was a way to boost sales. ZR1's on the other hand are a world class supercar, also with a limited run, but targeted at a different buyer. Consider that the 1989-1995 ZR1's in good condition are still commanding huge prices. Quite honestly, it's unlikely any c5 or c6 will ever be considered "collectible."

ZR1s tend to go for less than '96 Grand Sports. Hence the 427 will hold value better than the ZR1 IMO.

Keep in mind, they always come out with a new "fastest most powerful" every generation. When the C5Z06 came out it was the same way, and then it was totally blown out of the water by the C6Z06. Which was then totally blown out of the water by the C6ZR1.

The fastest car isn't the most collectible. The most unique and the ones that pull at the heart strings the most are. The 427 pairs a drop top with a 427 engine - that pulls at heart strings right there and opens wallets and purses.

I just saw a '90 ZR1 with 200 original miles sell for $34,000 at a Mecum auction. Not exactly huge money.

I agree about the zr1, but the carbon editions were very low numbers.252 produced...As to 96 grand sports that was a run of 1000 cars.

Actually, there were not any '89 ZR-1 production cars. Also, the '90-'95 ZR-1's are bringing less money than the '96 Grand Sports. My friend had a beautiful '91 ZR-1 with very low miles...he sold it last year for 25k. Not so great for a car that was 65k+ new.

Nothing great about the car either. 30k for a c4? That's not relatively huge?

Fact of the matter is it's not about the power of the new ZR1, it's the awards and records it's set. The 427 Convertibles have no such bragging rights, although the nostalgia certainly comes into play. Of course by the time the new 427 is considered collectible, the original will be 100 years old, and likely forgotten, so nostalgia is rendered moot.

I'd say anything with a LS7 or LS9 in it.
