Default Keyless remote replacement?

Question for anyone with experience. I have a working #1 remote, only one that came with my car, a 2007 coupe. The case of this remote is broken and beat up. I want another one and my question is do I need to buy a #2 or can I buy another #1 and just program it? Seems like there are a lot of number 1s for sale on eBay, new and used at pretty good prices, Any input or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

RJ

Number on the case doesn't matter. It's for you to keep them straight, not for the car.

The actual functional number of a FOB is determined by the order in which it's programmed to the car.

You can buy another number 1 and program it. I only received one also (#1). It was in good shape so I bought a #2 and had it programmed for a spare. When I bought the extra fob they asked if I wanted the #1 or #2.

Keep in mind that if the previous owner had the 2nd fob and had it programmed, you will be doing the number 3 which is great for a spare, but it will not keep the memory of your seat, mirror etc...

You could buy a number 1 and swap the guts and not have to program anything.

orrrrrrrr you can have the #1 & #2 FOBs in hand and do the long program and code them yourself and totally eliminate the "Original #2" Fob from working on your car.

That's what I would do. If you add a new FOB, it will be #3 and not retain the memory functions associated with FOBs 1 & 2.

Get the FOBs, numbered 1 & 2, do the long procedure and insert the FOB with the number 1 on it first as you program. It'll be #1 and the second FOB you program will be #2. That other missing FOB is now relegated useless.
