I have paint chips , one on the door edge and two on front of nose , I want to fix myself , I thought I would get touch up paint from the dealer , my corvette is black , I just got it about a month ago , and at that time I just overlooked , waxed and polished 3 times , can anyone give me the steps I need to do, thanks
Here is a step by step by a forum member of how to repair paint chips the correct way.
I downloaded this awhile back, but can't remember who the author was on this forum.
I've used Dr. Color Chip, and it does work.
I think that the PDF is the best way to get great results though.
I rarely find any chips anywhere but on the nose which I usually just re-sprayed every few years.
I get lot's of chips on my outside mirrors. I have a few on the hood, but my front end has little to no chips. We do lot's of road trips, so I am somewhat surprised that the front bumper is not peppered.
I'll do all the chip fixes over the winter hibernation period.
had a polymer clear bra put on mine this week to keep the rock chips away. It is the 1/3 way up the hood one. If I was to do it over would have paid the extra for the whole hood and fenders. The line is only visible when standing next to the car from the side, but the line is still there. standing in front or sitting in the car you cannot see it, but I know it is there LOL.
OP: I have done this a few times and it works for me. (1) - Clean the affected area. (2) - Apply a very thin coat of touch up paint and then let it dry, I wait for about 12 to 24 hours. (3) - Repeat step (2) 3 to 5 times or until the touch up paint is a little higher then the OEM "Paint / Clear Coat". (4) - This is the most important part, you need to find someone that "Knows" how to wet sand very well. If they have good technique, you should not even see where it was after they are done. I like to use this guy - http://forums.corvetteforum.com/sout...s-77379-a.html Good Luck!
I fill my chips with touch up paint. Let it dry for a couple days, then hit it with a Steck nib file, Micro fine sandpaper, then polish. Never know there was a chip. You can get the nib file at any body shop supply, or go to www.autobodytoolmart.com for more information. Put in Steck nib file in the search. Tells you all about it.

Go slow and build the layers up slowly over several days and then proceed. Horizontal surfaces are much easier than vertical ones due to gravity. Dr Colorchip and Langka will work as well as the Steck file mentioned above. Unless you're experienced, I would avoid the wet sanding process. If you're not extremely careful you will expand the repair area and create more work for yourself.
