Multiple problems....
I'm having problems with:
1. Shifter won't shift sometimes unless I actually PUNCH it down, numerous times...it's temperamental, doesn't do it all the time, but my hand hurts...suggestions?
2. "Air Bag" sensor light on. Had it "fixed" when a local dealer, who I don't go to anymore, said after $400 labor, "It was a loose wire". OnStar diagnostic reports it monthly, it seems to be affected by my seat movement, and outside temperature above 75 degrees...most of the time in Memphis. I've contacted Customer Service for whatever that does.
3. Crime. ( Well, I figured I'd through that out there, since I personally arrested more than 10 fine folks this month, several felonies, a couple violent felons, but they say crime is down. I shouldn't complain, it's job security...)
Looking forward to Vets in Vettes in BG in November for my 4th year there, and being at the St. Jude Check presentation on October 14th for my first time there, and I live here in Memphis (Jeez!)
Any help on the first two problems will be appreciated, I'll handle the third...

Notify the National Association of Highway Safety. It only takes a few minuets and it's the only way GM will fix the problem. Being a police officer you might have a little more influence with them than the rest of us.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

But seriously, a temperamental shifter is definitely fixable.
For starters, STOP TRYING TO FORCE IT!!
If you're stuck in Park, try this procedure:
1. With the engine off, press & hold the bottom of the start button for 5-10 seconds (this activates the electronics).
2. Then press the brake pedal; you should hear a faint clicking sound.
3. Then try shifting to Neutral; if that works, start the engine... you're good to go (temporarily).
But the above procedure will not fix the problem.
Fortunately, the problem might be simple -- like a malfunctioning brake-pedal switch or a weak/dying battery.
Unfortunately, you may have already damaged the shifter, making it more temperamental.

Worst case, you'll pay a dealer ~$800/installed for a new shifter.
You can eliminate the problem forever with a jury-rigged bypass (prevents the shift-lock from engaging)...

But then there's nothing to prevent anyone from shifting your C6 out of Park. (Just like my '66 Mustang.)
Lots of threads on this topic, like these:

Let us know what finally fixes it.

-Transfer over to K9
-Pick out the meanest *** eater you can find
-Throw away the leash
A lot of people these days aren't scared of the OC or little yellow toyish looking nonleathals. Dogs on the other hand, ensure instant compliance. If not, you still get a great show!
Good luck!
