Default Check coolant level

Leaving work I gunned it out of the parking lot before stopping at a red light. Traveled probably 1/4 mile. Check coolant level briefly displayed, I checked the temp. 153 and then pulled over and check coolant level. Level was fine and temp stayed in normal range the 50+ miles home. Should I be worried?

kind of odd; haven't seen that one on here before. any new things done in the last few months----cap, clean reservoir, water pump? any leaks, drips, smell of coolant burning (sweetish smell)? any need to add fluid? any very high temps over say, 235?

Only thing done was oil change (no burning oil smell) on Saturday.

Be sure to check the coolant level again when the engine is cold, you can't get a correct reading when hot. My guess is you're a little low - but don't add any until you're sure you need it. A rare top-up now and then is not necessarily cause for worry especially if there are no signs of any leaks, but if its happening more than rarely then somethings amiss

I remember reading on the forum when the C6 was new that the coolant tank does not have a level sensor.
It makes the determination to send the message by using other sensors. The check oil level is similar. Maybe someone will know how it works.

According o what I've read so far vet4les is correct. It uses some sort of algorithm based upon rpm, temp and time to determine coolant level. Sounds like magic to me. I'll run out in a couple of hours and chck it again. Maybe jumping into it and gunning caused it to get to 150 too quickly and computer decided that something may be wrong?

Possibly. If it doesn't see an expected temp in an expected time it will throw a code just for safety. Just keep an eye on it for problems.

Correct.

My son's did the same thing. It only occurred on acceleration. But his coolant was a little low. I have noticed if there is air in the system, the level in the radiator drops on acceleration. Seems like as the coolant pump works harder, some of the air is compressed?

Well, I don't know about that theory. The "water pump" doesn't compress anything; it circulates the coolant. The heat causes the pressure in the system because it's sealed. Air pockets (bubbles) can circulate through and when they do, they burp out into the reservoir tank, or get stuck in the block and cause a fluid void.

Air can be compressed easily. The water pump has to create a pressure differential to move the water through the system. The coolant will not compress but any air in the system will.

My car will do this if i let it sit in my driveway and warm up. Car doesnt run any differently with that message. Stays nice and cool. Coolant levels are normal when its cold.

Wait for the engine to cool down and check the reservoir. you may just need to top it off. If it is LOW or if the message returns then you need to look into it.
