Our check engine light has been on intermittently since 9-05. Initially after buying gas so we messed with cap which worked usually. Then it didn't. It has been on constantly since 2011. We had the gas cap replaced and the engine light is still on. It did not affect the drivability of the car so we lived with it. Now our situation has changed. This is the first year we need an emissions test to renew our registration. That won't happen with the engine light on. The dealer says code 4055 is the gas cap. We told them you replaced it before with zero result. The service writer has the who is in charge here attitude.
I did several searches and found a thread saying the issue could be the fuel vent solenoid. I passed this on to the service writer including the codes mentioned in the thread. He says that is not it, it is the fuel cap. They will put a new fuel cap on as a warranty item from the first replacement. No confidence that will work, but maybe? Does anyone have another idea?
Just a thought. When you put the gas cap on after filling you don't need to put any downward/inward pressure on it at all. None. Just turn till it clicks a few times and even if it seems loose it will be ok.

I just had a friend have to do a recall on a recall......Harmonic balancer....and another recall on a recall....wireing harness......so maybe that was a defective gas cap....
My CEL was traced to "loose ignition wires" which was not covered under warranty. All wires were replaced. Currently dealing with Customer Service to determine why this was not covered under warranty, especially since some kind of service "document" was issued by GM according to the dealership that services my car.

Code P0455 (not 4055) is a large leak detected in the fuel system. The fuel cap is the most likely cause but it could also be the EVAP purge solenoid, a blockage of the purge pipe, or the EVAP canister. Doing the GM recommended smoke test would quickly identify the problem.
Sounds like just another dealer who doesn't give a rat's ... You'll have to keep looking until you find a dealership that cares. I've been looking for 20 years and haven't found one yet that is both competent and honest.
In my case the dealer had to reset the ECM which cost around $150. Because the people I bought the car from F up the battery install before I pick it up and caused check engine light.
