Anybody see ALMS race on Sunday? Why can't ESPN show these live!
Great finish for Antonio Garcia. It was a close one over the no. 93 Viper. On to
VIR and Road Atlanta.

It is all in how rthe contract was written.
I may ruffle a few feathers here, but if you remember correctly, prior to ALMS and Grand AM signing the merger deal, ALMS lost their contract with Speed (controlled by NASCAR) so all of the ALMS races were only available on streaming video. No live broadcasts at all. Once the merger was signed a few of the races (Sebring, Limerock, Road America and Petit) that were and will be aired live. Next year I believe all the races are live broadcast on Fox Sports (was Speed). Funny how that works out. One year Speed demands an extremely high price for a TV deal and now that NASCAR has the control of ALMS they are on TV again.
I will go to my grave saying that the lose of the TV contract for ALMS was a back room deal between Speed and NASCAR, and I am not really sure it was a deal, but more of a arm twisting by NASCAR to run ALMS out of the picture.
Nascar must have a LONG REACH, 1st they killed AMA now they are planning on killing SPORTS CAR racing.
The GT class in ALMS has made for some really good racing the past couple of years. The ALMS, as a whole, has become a very entertaining series. Hopefully, NASCAR will leave IMSA alone and let them run the new series as they see fit. It's not likely but we can only hope for the best.
And you're right, NASCAR has absolutely destroyed the AMA. Even if it was still televised, it's almost unwatchable. A shame.

I agree, NASCAR is in the business of making money and supplying an entertainment event. ALMS is designed to supply a true racing event. NASCAR need ALMS to help keep their idea of sports car racing going with their Grand AM series. Grand AM had great TV contracts and decent viewer ratings but their fan base was low at the events. ALMS has a great fan base at the events and did well also in the TV market, but once they lost their TV contract (thanks NASCAR) they really struggled to keep the fans that watched on TV. At first it was supposed to be available on ESPN3 as well as ALMS.com, but just prior to the start of the that season, ESPN told ALMS that they could not stream any of the ESPN feeds in the US, only to Canada and overseas. That left a lot of viewers out in the clod as their cable provider did not supply access to ESPN3 or if they did it was at a low band width and the stream was almost impossible to watch.
We have been told that the current ALMS GT class with be left as it is and not merged with the GA GT class. This at least will leave the path to FIA and Le Mans for those teams that will get an invite. Will NASCAR be able to keep their hands off this series and let it maybe actually become a great sports car series, or will they (as they are known to do) trun this into another dueled down race series. Only time will tell.
