Few months ago had A6 tranny fluid changed and filter. And differential fluid changed. I went to local garage that has good reputation for being AC Delco and other Vettes get worked on there. Anyhow when I picked car up was 2 unopened quarts of fluid returned to me for transmission. didn't think much of it. now tranny is acting up. hard shifting on occasion. driveway has very slight incline. when put car in reverse seems to take few seconds for gear to actually catch.. when I say car shifts hard. a few times I really got on it from dead stop car wouldn't shift out of first gear and when it did slammed pretty hard. any thoughts on all of this??
How many miles on the car? How many miles on the old fluid before the change or how many years?
I have experienced the exact symptoms you describe. While it might be the fluid is low, it also could be the detergent action of the new fluid has dislodged some gunk on the housing that's now in your valve body. It shouldn't happen because of the filter but it does. I hope it's something simple. Keep us posted please.
auto tranmissions are pretty sensitive to proper fluid level, 6l80e even moreso. So the car was shifting normally after the fluid/filter change until just recently acting up?

tranny didn't seem right about week after had tranny fluid changed. had filter and fluid changed. its not problem most of time. but you can tell sometimes starting out from dead start even under light load it seems to slam 1st to 2nd. 80,000 miles on car. I bought fluid off amsoil guy on this forum. I believe he said need 7 quarts to do change with filter. and garage gave me back almost 2 full quarts. what is easiest way check fluid?? put car on jackstands ??

Yes, jackstands or take it back to the garage and let them put it on the lift. There is a procedure for checking the level.
If 80,000 was the first change for your fluid, I am guessing you are getting debris in your valve body now. I am also guessing, and I hope not, that you won't be able to fix this without a rebuild and thorough cleaning of the case and internal parts. It will just keep happening. I hope I am wrong.
I hope that it is just low level of oil and that it can be topped up to rectify - please keep us posted as I had recently been debating dropping the pan and changing the fluid/filter.
My understanding is (approx.) 6 1/2 quarts with a filter change, that is what I put in (6 1/2 QTS). Its always better to be slightly over than to not have enough in the trans IMO. At most I would "guess" that I may be 4 to 6 ozs over for a system that holds over 13 quarts and the car runs fine.
When I got done changing the fluid and filter, I pulled the plug using the proper checking procedure and approx. 8 oz's came out before I put the plug back in. The car shakes at idle so fluid would of kept coming out if I let it; so I decided to install the plug and put that 8 oz of fluid back in, fresh factory fluid of course.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I checked the factory fill level using the proper procedure "before" I started the filter/fluid change and when I pulled the plug approximately 8 ounces of trans fluid came gushing out before it started to drip!!!
PS: I added a small trans cooler in series with the radiator cooler before the trans fluid change and at the time I added in a small amount of trans fluid for that modification so I would not be low on fluid; but I could of been off however I don't think so and like I said, it's better to be off slightly to the full side. Remember that the factory fill check would have "nothing" to do with my filter/fluid change check where I added the 6 1/2 qts. after putting the pan back on. Moral of my Story: Just put in the 6 1/2 quarts (filter/fluid change) that is recommended by GM and forget it!

you should never change the tranny fluid with over 25000 miles on any car.reason is the clutches in the tranny and the fluid and particles of the worn clutches circulating in the tranny.if you dump that fluid and put new fresh fluid in it could cause tranny problems like whats happening to you.bottom line is if you change the fluid at 25k and do it regular schedule of 25k you will be ok.change it at 50k or higher and you risk possible tranny problems.happened to me on my truck.tranny guy told me that.
