Going from New Jersey to S. Carolina, anyone ever take skyline drive or blue ridge pky. Is it worth going that way since it will probably take a lot more time. Are there hotel/motels alone that route. Going in early November. Just returned from a trip through Vermont and NH, very nice. Car really loves those mountain twisty roads, not to mention the driver!

Definitely take the Blue Ridge Pkwy. Can't vouch for hotels.

There are motels along the way, but not directly on the Parkway. No commercial buildings or billboards are allowed. You have to get off of the Parkway itself but commercial stuff is not far at all. However, the speed limit is 45mph on the Parkway, so be aware of that and plan accordingly.
Slow down and enjoy some beautiful scenery.

How would you rate the enforcement of that 45 mph limit? Is there any leeway? If I were to, say hit 48 when we do the Blue Ridge next year?

We stayed on the Parkway at Little Switzerland just north of Ashville NC. Nice place to stay with a restaurant on site. Make reservations if you decide to stay.

The Parkway is a nice drive, but after the first couple of hundred miles it can get boring.

If you have time, the Biltmore Estate in Asheville is worth a full day, especially for the wife/GF.

After that, you can get on NC/GA/SC Hwy 28, sometimes called the "Moonshiner 28". Takes the better part of a day to get down to the flat part in northern SC, but a very fun ride. Just be careful of the decreasing radius turns, be sure to stay in your own lane.

Either way, enjoy!
