I am back in the market for a new car. I have only owned verts in the past (05 and 13 GS)
My question is - and this goes out to those who have owned both verts and coupes - what are the pros and cons of each and what did you prefer between the two.
I have never driven a coupe (Mc Mulkin does not do test drives on new cars) but will try to do so this weekend somewhere else.
Would be interested in some feedback from those who have gone through the analysis.
I have had both prefer the coupe to the vert, I like the way the vert looks when the top is down but don't care for the look when the rag top is up, i also think when the transparent top comes off i get plenty of that open air feeling as a vert JMO
I have an 06 coupe and prefer it greatly over a vert. Number 1 reason is more storage space. A lot more. Second is versatility, you can always take the roof off on those sunny days when you know it won`t rain and leave the roof at home. With a vert you take your roof with you everywhere you go, like it or not. Thirdly I feel more protected with a solid structure over my head rather than fabric, it just feels safer. With a glass roof you still get the sun shine with the option of rolling down the windows for a breeze. That is why I prefer a coupe vs a vert. Bat Pig out.
I have both. Really like the look of the vert with the top down but some days it's just nice to have the climate control on and not have to deal with the wind. The wife and I prefer the coupe but we do like to get the vert out with the top down once in a while.
I've had both. I like to say Convertibles are sports cars, Coupes are muscle cars. Just my opinion, I like both. Coupes are more practicle, Convertibles are more fun. So it's up to you what you want more.
1)Coup is less likely to be vandalized. Some people or groups have a thing for slashing convertible tops and they are expensive to replace.
2) Coup has more storage space due to the hatchback.
3) Coup has less wind noise when driving at higher speeds. This is the primary reason I went to a coup after two verts.
The biggest advantage to the convertible is the ease of raising and lowering the top. It is effortless and can be done at a stop light. Althuogh not difficult, to remoce the hartop takes a little effort and you have to get out of the car and store it in the back.
Looks are a personnal preference and I like the looks of both.
I've owned both, and find I now gravitate to the coupe.
Convertible
PROs = great feeling - wide open air - looks terrific with the top down.
CONs = Don't care for the look of the roof line with the top up - limited time of year to enjoy riding with the top down - top deteriorates with time - storage capacity is extremely limited - noisier ride.
Coupe
PROs = Fantastic roof line that greatly enhances the look of the car, all the time - remove top for a "convertible feel", and still keep that great roof line - top doesn't deteriorate - considerably more storage room - quieter ride - save lottsa money.
CONS = Only one, it's not a true convertible.
The vert gives an open air wind in the face experience the coupe will never get close to.
My vert is actually very quite and no wind noise. Coupes removable top likes to rattle.
A vert is like owning two different cars, with very different experiences between top up and top down. Coupe..not so much.
On cold rainy days with the tops up and climate control on I've seen no difference between the coupe and vert comfort wise.

Someone wrote Vert is "best of both worlds", actually the Coupe is the best of both worlds...hard top for everyday driving and topless when you feel the need for it! And plenty of openness with the top off.
Did an extensive overnight test drive of a GS coupe but never owned a C6 coupe. Had a C5 coupe for 10 years and a C5 vert. before that. So these are my observations.
I found the coupe to be much, much louder inside then a vert. My wife and I could not talk to each other in the coupe without practically yelling at speeds above 60 mph and she could not use her cell phone at all. This is not a problem with the vert. we have. I suspect it is because there is a physical partition between the passanger compartment and trunk in a vert and not in the coupe. Yes, you can take the top off in a coupe but it is a PITA compared to pushing a button and if you put the roof in the back you greatly reduce, to nearly zero, any storage space. Others will come on a say how much they can put in the back with the roof installed but there really isn't much. More then enough room in the back of the vert. for a two week trip but probably won't hold as much potting mixture. I never used my C5 all that often to hold more then I could with a vert. so trunk space was not a issue. I will not be tracking my car so not being able to run on a track without a rollbar is not an issue. I happen to prefer the looks of the vert. over the coupe even with the top up but I know others don't. Thats fine. Which do you prefer? People might slash the top on a vert. but those same people would key a coupe. You've had verts. How often has your roof been slashed? Drive a coupe, even a used one, and then decide. I suspect that since you have had only verts. before you would really kick yourself if you didn't buy a vert. again. Good luck and have fun.

That sounds like my wife and me. Spring and Fall you cannot beat the vert. Hot Summer days and travelling, you cannot beat the coupe. More storage space and the top comes off when you get where you are going.
I've heard comments about the targa top creaking, rattling, squeaking, etc., but I have not yet experienced that.
My '13 GS is only 7 months old. Does it take time for this anomaly to develop?
Is it only on earlier C6 models? I have a friend with a 2012 and his top is as tight as mine, with no noises what-so-ever. So,
The top on my '08 coupe has never rattled, squeaked, or anything else.
I track mine so I have a coupe. You can track a vert but must have a roll cage installed, which is not easy or cheap, takes up room and generally looks terrible, so that ain't happening for me. One other pro of a coupe is that you can have more than one top; one painted and one clear. Since the halo on a coupe is a pretty stout roll bar they're much safer in a rollover accident than a vert.
