Default Seat memory

The drivers seat memory and memory mirror settings have been randomly changing or just going to what-ever for about a month now.

Any quick tip things to check or just head to dealership?

Tks.

1. Make sure you are using the same fob (only #1 or #2, no extras) each time.

2. Be sure options are set correctly.

3. If still having problems, check for loose/crimped wires, or loose connectors; under the seat. Open connector, carefully reconnect, use a zip tie to hold together forever.
That solves 99% of the problems.

By having the options set correctly, I meant having them set for driving when you start the car, and for exit when you leave the car; on whichever fob(s) you plan to use; and holding the button to "save" the new settings after you put them in.

There is a difference on how the automatic and manual transmissions use the memory system. On our A6, the seat and steering wheel automatically go to my driving position as soon as the car is started, and then go to the exit position when the engine is shut off and the door is opened. Or you can push the appropriate button (only momentarily, or it will "save" the "new" position) for driving or exit, any time the tranny is in Park.

The M6 cars are a bit more complex, I think the parking brake is involved but I don't know the details. You M6 guys may need to use your Owner Manual and a magnifying glass to understand the system.

After reading many threads here, and having my own experiences, it seems that:

If the seat (or steering wheel) does not move at all, most of the time (but not always) it's some kind of "pilot error" with the settings, fobs, or parking brake (M6)/transmission (A6).

If the seat or steering wheel moves a little but not enough, or works properly after you move it slightly with the switches on the seat and then hit the memory button again, most of the time (but not always) there is a bad connection or wire.

YMMV, unfortunately.

Mine have been doing their own thing lately. I guess it's time to replace the zip ties.

The good news is it's not a safety problem like the connector at the back of the seat that GM refuses to admit is a problem. One day the air bag will not deploy and they will say they didn't know it was a problem. The sooner we get together and complain to the NHTSA about the connector problem the sooner they will take care of it.

Two of the wires on my seat had very slight tears in the casing causing them to short. After identifying them and wrapping up the torn areas with electricians tape I slightly raised the seat position to avoid further abrasion in the future when the seat retracts and repositions itself. That was in February and it has been fine ever since.

I replaced the zip ties and so far so good.

Please file your complaint about the connectors here. Air bag or seat memory.
