I have a Droid phone and use the app "acar" to track EVERYTHING on all my cars including my kids cars. I can then export the info to my computer. Check your phone apps. Apple or Driod has something you might be able to use.
About 25 years ago (Pre-onboard computers, OBD-1 time) I was the Service Director for a Big Three dealer. We had a vehicle towed in with engine failure, the old oil(?) looked like black, nasty honey. I called the factory rep and informed him that the customer's receipts from a local oil changer were at precisely 3000 mile intervals and were NUMBERED CONSECUTIVELY!
The factory guy said "good will the engine", if we deny the claim and he sues us we have to go to trial in HIS HOME TOWN!
Actually the inside of the engine will tell the tale. Engines with infrequent oil changes will be slugged up with black tar like material and extremely black oil. Engines with frequent oil changes are relatively clean with brownish/blackish oil. There will be no doubt and a warranty claim with an oil issue should not be a problem.
I've done all my own oil changes since 1968 and have documented every one in a log, vehicle, date and mileage. Also any other work I do on them, as well as keeping all receipts for parts, inspections, and any work I have to have someone else do.
[QUOTE=Racer;1585126738]Does anybody realize how silly some of this documentation is?
I could buy oil for my wifes Hummer today and use those receipts for my ZR1 that I changed the oil in April if it blew its motor. As was already stated CORRECTLY, you can buy your oil/filters in bulk and use them whenever. So, the receipt things are a joke. Taking pics of the hood up, with drained oil and a pic of todays newspaper on the fender is also hillarious! Carry on boys, I love it!! [/QUOTE
I share your opinion, but then again what is GM's position? We have seen posts where owners have been asked for receipts for oil changes? What would GM accept from me or one of our other forum members who change their own oil? Anyone with the experience out there?
