Has anyone had issues with the Nav system not being able to read a disc, and then refusing to eject it? I'm trying to figure out if it is a bad disc or if it is the DVD reader itself that causes the problem. It seems like if I let it sit overnight, it will usually work again the next day. When it hangs up I get a message on the display that says there is not a Map DVD installed, and when I open the display to try to eject it, the disc won't eject, and the display gets stuck in the open position.
Has anyone else encountered this type of error? If so, was it traced to a bad disc or a bad DVD player/Nav unit?
If you can get your disc out, you will probably notice a lot of dust on the reading part of the disc. Clean it with soap and water, dry it with a microfiber cloth.
I ejected my Nav disc the other day, and it was filthy with a fine dust.
Also, it may be wise to buy some compressed air in a can (used for computers) and shoot some in the slots in the CD and NAV to help clean the slots out.
Also, if it ever boots up, see if you can shut off the NAV display (menu option) then try to eject the disc. This will stop the NAV disc from spinning and it may eject
just be careful of the "air in the can" sometimes a little mist of water comes out. spray it elsewhere before spraying directly into the slot too make sure it's pure air. trust me, i know.
Has anyone had problems like this when using Verbatim Dual Layer disc copies? I'm not sure why the disc itself would prevent it from ejecting though. I can understand it might have problems reading it, but seems like it should still eject ok if the mechanism is working correctly.
My original Nav system was replaced 2 1/2 years ago under warranty when it did the same thing. It intermittently quit reading the burned DVD and the Nav screen became very hot. Then it would not eject sometimes.
The replacement unit worked fine until a month and a half ago, when it suddenly quit reading the burned DVD. I tried burning a new copy and blowing some canned air into the DVD slot, to no avail. Even bought the correct Navteq DVD through GM. Still no luck.
Now, $1500 later at a local Chevy dealer, the system works fine with the new DVD and a burned copy of same.
I think removing the disk when not using the Nav might have helped prolong the life of it, but I only have 25K miles on my Vette it in 5 1/2 years.
Its the unit. Had the same problem and had a new unit installed (under warranty) at the dealership. New Unit (with new disc) went bad after 6 months. Needed a new unit AGAIN!
Ok, sounds like a common problem, and it isn't the disc. This will be the second time I've had it replaced. Sure hope this one lasts longer than the last one.
My 2006 NAV hasn't skipped a beat in 7 years, and I always keep the DVD in the slot. I've taken it out when I've updated, and only use the original DVD.
I do take it out occasionally to clean the DVD and slot of the dust buildup.

Good Luck
I'm happy for you. The dealer just replaced my entire Nav system again. I'm on my third one. They told me they have had to replace a lot of them, not only in the Corvette, but in other GM cars that use a similar system. Apparently they are very prone to failure. Good thing it was covered under warranty, or else I would be out $1,800 every time it fails.
Mine has been pretty much trouble free after the compressed air trick but if I had to have it replaced that many times even though its under warranty I would get an aftermarket one at my expence.

I had that issue along with the display not being able to stay on a setting for more than a half second. It kept jumping all over the possible selections. Dealer tried loading code described in a TSB but that didn't stop the problem. Finally, replaced the unit. GMPP paid for the repair. The cost of a rebuilt replacement unit was $1295 which is over 50% of what I paid for the GMPP. There were at least 4 hours of labor involved with all of the diagnostics.
My radio doesn't read the DVDs or cd disc. I've tried almost everything, nothing works. As I've been searching, I have found that there are a lot of issues with this radios.
I'm curious why there hasn't been a recall for them.
Same issue on my 08 but have not tried the compressed air yet. just bought the car in Nov from dealer and only had 1500 miles on it. got the extended warranty so if air does not work will be taking it in to dealer

You can also try a CD/DVD cleaner disc. That may clean the laser lens of any dirt buildup.
They are cheap to buy almost anywhere.
Good Luck
Especially in a Vert, there is a great deal of dust and some always gets into the disc drives. This is the most likely cause of a disc reading problem. The price we pay for that great fresh air feeling...oh well...
