There is a big long GM bulletin about the noisy roofs, you can find it here somewhere and print it out to use.

Everyone has their own pet "trick" to fix the problem, usually just doing a particular step of the bulletin and hoping that is enough. Sometimes it is, sometimes not. Our 2009 had 4 different problems the dealer had to fix (under warranty, fortunately) before it got quiet.

If you want to try the simple/easy trick, buy some GM Superlube (the tube, not the spray can!). Remove your top and place it upside down on a clean/soft surface like a beach towel on a rug. Rub some of the Superlube into the rubber and any place that will touch something else, and also on the pins, and plates where the front latches click in, especially the little depression. Do the same on the car itself.

The Superlube will leave a slight whiteish deposit as it eventually dries, but it's not bad and is visible only when the top is removed.

This fix works about 50% of the time. Otherwise, get that bulletin...

I just bought some Superlube (both spray and in a tube) and it arrived from Amazon this morning, so your instructions - and this thread - couldn't have come at a better time. My top has been popping like crazy and getting worse. I found that releasing the front levers on the top and breaking the seal, then relatching reduces it. I am hoping the SuperLube cures the problem.

The superlube did not fix mine. WHat did was putting a piece of shrink wrap on each of the 4 posts. Problem solved.

Dielectric grease, rub thin coating on rubber and latches and rollers and add an extra o-ring on each side. Problem solved.

Hope it solves the problem. Be sure to use a Q-tip and put some Superlube on the front latch plates, especially in the little "valley" where the latch sits when locked in place.

We've used the dielectric grease for years, but on our car (15-20k miles/year) it needs to be renewed about every six months. The Superlube lasts much longer.
This is the ultimate "YMMV" situation, differing from car to car.

This thread motivated me to go lube my top again. Dielectric grease works but eventually turns tacky. I clean off the weatherstrip and apply some more.

I also decided to put some heat shrink tubing on the post and grease them up also. Quiet as a mouse now. Before it was popping and sounded like it was coming from passenger side of console or under the dash.

Try the heat shrink, it works!! Front latches require more force to close now.

Basically, this is what I do periodically and I have no issues with it. What I understand (from reading on this forum) is that this area (the middle of the car) is its designed "flex" area. So, I'm not at all surprised that it flexes there. But, apply a little of dielectric grease every so often and I don't ever hear it.

I did the O-ring thing which did not work. The other day I took some 50 wt oil I have for boat bearings and wiped all metal to metal mating surfaces and for the first time in the year I have had it, it is nice and quiet. yea!

My top squeaks only when it's in the trunk. Only on the passenger side
Should I put that lube on the connection point in the trunk?

I placed a small O-ring on the inside of the rear holes that marry up with the rear guide pins and I also replaced the original O-ring on the front pointy guide pins with slightly larger diameter ones that still fit in the groove. I also use dielectic grease on all the rubber trim and front rollers on the locking levers. No noise.

E-clips and lube did it for me. The o-rings made it worse for some reason.

Try adding the e-clips. I did all three things but the e-clips won the battle
