So new to Memphis just got stationed here on active duty coming from sunny fl where winter conditions are never a concern.
But now there were into the fall I'm beginning to wonder.
Im looking for input on storage for the winter? I'm assuming as with most states the ice/salt is a concern and a reason to look at storing the bette, is this the case here? i only as as my C6 is my daily driver with my motorcycle as a secondary. Having just PCSed up here and it coast quite a bit to get moved and situated. With a big thank you to this government shut down all my moving funds and reimbursements have been put on hold so pretty much cleaned out my savings to get set up and on my feet. Bike is paid off free and clear but i have a payment on the bette. Wondering how long i can possibly hold off buying a second mode of transportation and getting a second car payment as savings took a big hit in the move. any input is greatly appreciated
I'm in the Knoxville area now, formally of the Nashville area, and our Tennessee winters are typically mild with very little snow but...I have driven through Memphis during an ice storm and it was really bad--vehicles spinning-out everywhere. That doesn't happen often though. I would just drive it and watch the weather forecasts for anything unusual.
I live just south of Nashville and moved here 3 years ago from Chicago.
Don't worry about the winters. They will usually close EVERYTHING down on the forecast of snow...not the occurrence like up north. And even then it only lasts a day or two. Memphis seems to have more problems with ice than snow. If you have the ability to work from home or take a sick/personal day, it won't be a problem.
Being from Nashville (actually Franklin), I can't personally speak for Memphis, but around here we don't actually have salt trucks...nor snowplows. We don’t really have a problem with salt build up. Some areas might, but not around here that I’m familiar with.
I was out of town once and we were in the process of getting 2" of snow when I landed at the airport. When I was leaving, I literally saw a young lady get out of her car on a bridge and get in her boyfriends (husband?) car on the other side of the road. Completely abandoning her car right there on the bridge.

cool, thanks for all the input i appreciate it all. Im going to look around a little if i can find some thing reasonable it'll be good to have a back up so I'm not driving the bette all the time especially with all the mods I've put into it, Cam and gears make it a little bit inconvenient some times especially on the gas milage, But i sacrifice well worth it!!!
Here in the DC area I drive them all winter. I just make sure to take them to a touch-free car wash where the arms and sprayers move around the car, with a good undercarriage wash every week or so, when there is salt on the roads.
I'm in Knoxville and winters aren't bad at all. You'll only see snow a couple times a year and there's plenty of warning to get home or stay home in time. I plan on driving mine thru the winter!
I was stationed at Millington (North of Memphis) four different times when I was a Marine. Usually you will not have any meaningful winter precipitation. Once in a while we had snow accumulations that the vette would not be able to handle but this was rare.
thanks for all the input. Well The Vette is actually down right now. I was swapping out the Diff for an RPM stage 3 Diff (also upgraded my 05 case to the 06 and up case) with 3.73s, but while doing the swap i noticed the tranny fluid was dark almost black. I had just done the tranny service and filter change about 1200 miles ago so wasn't a good sign, definite slippage. it was time to rip it out and begin the rebuild. I've done some decent upgrades to the car and its putting out decent power. well the 125,000 mile tranny isn't holding up. Got a nice set up to build for the tranny but it'll take some time. so even if I had the Vette up as soon as posable I'm pretty sure the colder weather will begin to get to be a bit much with only the Ducati. love my bike but some mornings (heading into work at 5am) can be a B****.

Welcome to the area. Winter here is quite mild. Last year, we had a dusting of snow and it was gone the following day. Most winters average 2-3 inches of snow.
