Default Engine Temp in traffic

I was in heavy traffic today, lot of stop and go and VERY slow traffic and noticed my temp pushing the 220 mark

I set the DIC so I could see actual temps and it was at 217, never higher, and when went to normal driving it would drop pretty quick to around 203

Is this ok/normal

LOT of other Vettes in same traffic here this weekend, Pigeon Forge TN for the Corvette Expo.

Mine does that especially with the AC off. It will be at 198° and when I come to a red light it goes to 205-208 before the light turns green again then back down to 198. In heavy traffic I see 217-218°.

No worries. As long as you have a full load of coolant, you're fine. I have an Edelbrock E-Force supercharger with its intercooler radiator mounted in front of the main radiator. On the hottest summer afternoons during the August 2012 midwest drought and heat wave, Red's coolant temps never rose above 225 while stuck in I-64 traffic. Once I started moving again, it quickly fell to 217.

But then again, your hottest summer afternoons are like an unexpected cool summer day for Phoenix. It's all relative to the ambient temperatures.

As long as coolant is full and no steam is coming through the hood. No worries if gauge is within normal operating temp. Common sense to know the temp will rise in traffic on a hot day.

Your temps are just fine. Might want to just check and see if the area in front of the radiator is free from leaves and other debris - it's a good habit to check that area every once in a while.

Mine on the hottest day in summer traffic rose to 224 but cooled down once I was moving. Normal is 200 - 210 for me.

Check n clean radiator.

Highest was 230 in gridlock and 192 regular but have since had coolant and waterpump change.

After change 194 to 217..haven't been in gridlock to compare highest temp. of late.

Personally, I do keep my cars for a long time and not comfortable with heat in the engine bay since it destroys without discrimination.

Even though I removed practically all unnecessary heat traps and did these:

I still was not happy until I did these to allow engine heat to escape in traffic or at highway speed:

In the closed and latched position:

Now I am a happy camper!
