Two questions on this topic:

1. I thought modern cars were given rust protection treatments (such as zinc plating) that helped prevent most rust problems. They don't work?

2. I assume that the hardtops that were so popular on older Corvettes were used by people in colder climes (I never put the hardtop on my 1966). If so, why are they not made for modern Corvettes? Are the newer soft tops that much better, that a hardtop is not needed?

R&L, you have a Ford truck. I can show you similar pictures of my Ford with the same amount of rust and our truck has never seen salt. Always in Atlanta, GA. The thing even rusted out a diff. cover, something I have never seen even in the MidWest. Ford didn't even paint that cover.

Put mine in the pole barn last Saturday as well after several days of snow and slick roads. I didn't totally shut it down, just put it on the tarp and horse stall mats with the CTEK plugged in. Waiting for the call to take in down to the body shop to fix the damage because of that whitetail deer that wanted a ride. Once the repairs are done then it goes into storage till April/May.

Got my two snowcats all lubed, fueled, batteries charged and the fish house all loaded last weekend. Just need snow and a good foot of ice on the lake to enjoy fishing.

That would never happen to a newer Corvette at all, trust me. I drove my C5 through 7 winters and there wasn't rust underneath it at all. I won't be daily driving my C6 in the winter, but as long as the roads are clean I'll take it out. We are lucky up here, winters are fairly mild and we often get rain to wash away the road salt and give us a lot of chances to enjoy our sports cars for a few days here and there.

As a general statement yours is total 'BS' ..........do yourself some research on the effects of 'salt brine' alone........ son, you have no clue.

Housing down here is dirt cheap. Ask wayback or some of the other TX posters. No state income tax for starters. Very low property taxes too.

Property taxes are not low. That's partly how they make up for no state income tax and fund the school system.

The other way TX compensates for no state income tax is a higher than average sales tax. Texas is tied with a couple other states for the 13th highest sales tax rates.

Screw winter and the snow. Prime vette weather in beautiful warm Houston boys. No storing our babies, Hell I would move before having to store my car for the winter. This is why I moved here from northern California. We will be driving our vettes (while fighting off the dang mosquitos) throughout all seasons. C'mon down thisaway fellas and enjoy your rides all year round. Btw, it hit 79 for.a high today too.
