Need some opinions. I have a 2010 C6 with 16000 miles. I was told to get rid of the stock battery for the following reasons:
1. The battery vents causing corrosion on the firewall and underside of the hood.
2. The stock battery tends to rupture causing all kinds of problems/ corrosion.
I was told to replace it with an Optima Red Top.
Opinions please?????
but you own a C6??... replace the battery when necessary.. which will probably be soon enough.. then you can decide if you want to "upgrade" to a red-top. I will probably stick with a standard AC Delco or similar as I've had no issues and only heard of battery drain issues, but I use a tender.
You live in SoCal and most likely can drive it all year, so the tender may not be necessary.
No issues with a C6 battery from Delco. I have yet to see any acid residue around my battery tray. Now the older cars and batteries leaked or vented acid all the time.

If your Delco battery is the lead acid type, your friend is correct on 1 & 2. Even if #2 never happened, cannot get away with #1 and although C6 is mostly plastic not being affected by the acidic vapor but the car's frame, computer, fuse box and loads of wiring harness are close by.
My single reasoning with not having detrimental acidic vapor in my engine compartment lead me to even by passed the Optima's recent reliability issues and went for the Odyssey Gel type + loads of preventive measures:
Old school type don't get along with acidic vapors, long term, it is a nightmare in the making.
However, WEB opinions are abound and final choice is personal.

This was an early C5 problem! These cars had top mounted posts that tended to separate from the case of the battery. It doesn't apply to C6s.
I have been reading about replacement batteries. When mine is due, I will look at the Odyssey. It's expensive, but supposed to be a really good battery.
Regardless of C6 issues, you can do a lot worse than a Optima Red Top when it is time to replace.
I always replace batteries as a preventive maintenance. Don't wait for it to start failing and then leave you stranded. Batteries and tires should be replaced every five years on general principal regardless of condition.
Your OEM battery is good for roughly 3-5 years. No need to over pay for an OPTIMA anything. DIEHARD or any proven battery will do the job.Never heard of that stuff you mentioned happening...did an OPTIMA BATTERY salesman tell you that?
That was a problem with C4's. The ECM was located under the battery and if the battery leaked the ECM was affected. There doesn't seem to be any problems with C6's. I do remember some C5 batteries having issues.

if you car is a garage queen, the optima will trump the diehard...if not, the diehard is fine..

^^ This ^^ Somebody is trying to sell an Optima battery.
The early C5s had batteries from the factory that tended to leak near the posts due to weak battery cases and cable stress. Also some reported the original side post batteries would leak if the 8mm bolts were over-torqued. The Ac Delco Professional series batteries remedied this issue. Have to believe there are no original batteries in the C5s by now. If the battery did leak, there was a potential to take out the electronic modules located under the battery and also the substantial harnesses connected to those modules. Anyway, as a precaution on my C5 to protect the wiring harness, I placed an acid mat under the battery and check it when I check the oil. My C6 has the battery in the trunk so no issue there.
