I installed a set of Continental Extreme Contact DW's on my C6 early this past summer and absolutely LOVE them. The DW stands for Dry / Wet (summer only). They have the appropriate (186 mph) speed rating and so far, they are great. Down side is they are not RFs. I bought pump and a plug kit.
My OEM's (Goodyear) sounded like snow tires. These Conti's have a different tread pattern and are almost dead silent. What a difference.
dckotwicki , what is Road Force Balanced? Who does this? I have been thinking about getting all 4 rebalanced as I have a slight out of babance condition it seems.

The Hunter company makes a balancing machine that runs a roller against the tire as it's being spun for balance, and measures the simulated "road force" caused by an out of round or out of true tire. The tech can usually fix an irregularity by moving the tire around on the wheel, because the wheel usually has slight high and low spots also.
Billy Bob will tell you he can do just as well with his conventional balancer, but he's lying. Unless you get lucky with your tire/wheel combination.
On a Corvette or similar car; road force of 20 is bad, 15 is marginal, 10 is quite good.
The hunter machines are not on every corner, but a little research should find one near you. As a bonus, they are usually owned by the better tire shops.
is it just the gs that has tire problems? i haven't read one post with a complaint of tire wear on a base model yet. could it be the suspension on the gs causing these problems, or the drivers themselves? just asking.
I had 7474 on mine with some spirited driving and the tires where not that worn. Getting there but not bad......... Now it dropped a piston and needs a new engine but the tires are good!!!

The base cars had alignment problems also, but the narrower tires seemed to take the abuse a little better.
We've had three new Corvettes (2001, 2006, now 2009), every one of them had at least one parameter that was outside of even the mile-wide GM alignment specs.
no ... i have a '12 GS vert with the same mileage and all 4 run straight all the way across the tread pattern. no cups/splits/or uneven wear. these are pretty nice for me.
This is about the same mileage that I found similar problems on my 2005. Dealer was no help. Took it to a local shop with the latest Hunter equipment, they asked if I was going to race it or not. So I got their "tour" alignment and no more problems or uneven wear. Had to promise that I would not exceed 125mph with this alignment.
Recently traded for a 2011 and immediately took it to this shop for the "tour" treatment.
