Default Tpms

If I have new tires mounted and use the same rim per corner, what is the wait time before I have to get the tpms reset?

Thanks!

Not sure what you mean by "reset". If you have the same sensors in the same corners they should continue to work. If you replace them or move them to a different position they have to be registered to the ECM so the car knows where each signal is coming from.

Thats what I figured - I just dont want some jackass at a tire shop trying to charge me 20 or 30 bucks to reset my sensors when its totally unnecessary.

Im already expecting them to lie and say they have to do it just because its another way to make money ...

thanks!

If you're buying tires, I don't think any reputable dealer would charge even if they had to re-register the sensors. If they know what they're doing and have the required tool, it only takes about one minute.

already bought the tires off tirerack, so I just need them mounted and balanced

theres a wallyworld down the street from me, so I may try taking it there out of convenience since Im going to need to ask a neighbor to help bring the tires over... unfortunately I cant figure out how to get 4 tires into a c6

Do you hate your wheels and want an excuse to buy replacements?

Seriously, that's not where I would go for careful work and a Road Force balance, unless you personally know they are good.

There is a way to get all the tires in a C6 Coupe, was posted long ago and I think it goes like this (obviously, bag the tires to protect your interior):

One rear tire goes in the passenger seat, then run the seat full forward.
The other rear tire goes in the trunk, behind the passenger seat and partly forward of the little ridge in the trunk.
One front goes behind driver.
Other front goes in remaining space, sitting partly on top of another tire. Hatch will not close completely, use a bungee to hold it from bouncing.

This probably only works on a base coupe with the skinnier tires, but not sure. You should be able to find the original post in Search, but I'm not sure what words to use.

I have to agree w. Jim above. If only because I'd rather not be reading a few days from now how X place ruined 1 or more of your wheels.

Probably no doubt that a "real wheel place" may cost more per wheel to dismount, mount and balance your new tires. But one wheel damaged, even IF they do pay for it without argument (no guarantee on that) is time wasted and damage done. Not worth it, imo. Just a thought...

Go to tirerack.com and check their list of recommended installers for your area. You should find a reputable shop there that can do the mount for you. The TPMS doesn't not need to be reset if you put each wheel back in the location it came from.

Thanks for the replies. Ive got the chrome 5 spokes, I do hate them (they cant clear any brake kit) and plan on going with some black 15 spokes as soon as I can afford them...
I found a couple of race shops (one of which I know does tires) in my area and there are some decent tire shops down the road, so Ill give those a call instead of walmart.

Jim Im going to try fitting the tires in the car with that method. Pictures will follow.

Thanks again!

FYI ... The local GMC dealer charged me $23 to do them on a 2009. AND I bought the new TPMS from them thru a local Corvette fixer AND they could not install them due to their tire machine being sick!

The last set of tires I bought from Tire Rack were put on at a local Sears store. I think Sears has made an agreement with Tire Rack to be a preferred installer - they charge a little less for Tire Rack customers than to their regular customers. I found this out when I ordered the tires so I just had the tires delivered to the store. I called ahead and let them know to expect my tires - the service manager called me back when the tires arrived a day or two later. This store in particular did a very nice job though this was *just* my Mazda3 work car. I'd think about it and maybe talk to them before I had them swap the tires on my Vette...

Good luck!

Thanks. I've never tried it myself, and the locations I gave in post #6 are from memory. Which may or may not be correct...
