Default C6 for C5

I'm really contemplating on selling my 07 BLK/BLK C6 A6 for a C5 M6. This is something i've been thinking about a lot lately. For some reason, I dig the more round look of the C5 over the C6 and they can be had for a hell of a lot cheaper. Can someone provide me with some insight, like i'm crazy or something? I dunno, a 01' C5 for 14-15k w/ mild mods seems like a good time. Thanks for the help.

Why didnt you get a C5 in the first place if you like the looks better?

I understand the desire to have a previous iteration. At the time I purchased my '09, back in '09, I seriously thought of looking for a FI 4sp, '61, as I once had and loved. I think I could have picked one up for the price I paid for a pretty much fully loaded vert. When I started thinking about what issues I would be facing with an almost 60 year old car, I quickly awoke from my dream.

I realize you are only going back 13 years for your dream, but you are only considering the shell. A Corvette unfortunately is more than skin deep. If you get my drift.

Interesting, I own a 2001 Blk coupe, M6, and was looking at the 06,07 market recently. I looked at the price difference and just could not justify paying that much money more for a comparable C6. I drive it spring, summer, fall, and park it during the winter. I don't track it.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the look of both the C5 and C6. Most of the guys who I pay to be my friend drive C6's. Someday an M6 Grand Sport will be mine but for now the "bang for the buck" goes to the C5. Good luck.

The C5 leaves much to be desired, not the least of which is the flutter in the #2 ring which causes oil consumption in 2001 year cars.I had one.Burned half a quart to a quart very often. I found my 01 coupe to be lacking in a few area's.The seats are just plain junk.Shifting is notchy at best.Unless you put headers in there you will feel the power difference off the bat.The headlights are from the stone ages compared to C6 lights, plus you have air brakes at night when they are up.The car is also BIG in the booty...

I own both, an '01 and a '13, both verts / manuals. It depends on what you want to do with the car and how you intend to drive it.

In my opinion, the C5 is a better road trip car - smoother manners, great effortless handling, good gas mileage, plenty of power, good ride quality, much quieter if you ditch the run-flats, can sit in it all day. C5 factory entertainment system is in a serious need for update and no factory NAV - I bring an MP3 player along and play it through a Rat Shack cassette adapter. Insurance is cheaper of course.

In terms of pure performance in power, handling and braking, the C6 is the one to drive. Fun for the shorter trips and pleasure driving, but I think I don't do the long legged trips as easily - part of the reason is the suspension is stiffer with the MSRC in all modes. C6 fit and finish is better, the shifter is considerably better, the seats have additional padding but the cockpit is not as roomy, the HUD is a little grainy, factory entertainment system is adequate but could be more up to date, and the NPP exhaust is a plus for the sound.

For my .02, both are great cars depending on what the mission is.

I couldn't see going for an 01 since a lot burn oil. I'm coming from a 99 C5 to a 13 Grand Sport. I never would've bought a C6 if it wasn't a widebody, maybe you should look into a GS, the better looks, bigger brakes & awesome handling are second to none! Plus the LS3 motor!!

Performance and upgraded gadgets... I got an A6 though and that is boring as hell (Fiance can't drive a stick and she needs to drive it home if we go out and I have a few drinks)... M6 is where its at though, I drove one and it was SOOOOO much more fun.
