Default Can someone explain this ...

Today, I walked up to my car, opened the Driver's door, sat down, pressed the Start/Stop button, "No Fob Detected" on the DIC.
I got out, closed the Driver's door, walked around to the Passenger's side, tried the the door, locked. Even tried the hatch release button, locked. Went back to the Driver's door, tried the door, it was locked.

*I did NOT have my fob with me! How or why was I able to open the Driver's door the first time?! Auto-lock setting is enabled / Horn sounds when lock is activated / lights flash

Fob was inside the house. When I retrieved the fob, everything operated as it should.

Anyone ever had that happen to them???

Did you get out of the car normally and get the honk or did you putz around in the cabin for a few minutes doin' "stuff" before you get out of the car. You can fool the car into thinking the fob is still inside and it won't autolock.

Car was parked in my garage, not driven for at least 10 days. Did not "putz" around upon egress. Thought it was a battery issue, battery at start-up dipped to 12+ when I clicked the Start button but immediately read 14+ on the gauge. DIC read 14.3

Could be a a computer glitch. I have never had that one, but I have had other random problems that occur once or only occasionally.

Somebody pushed the unlock button on the fob in the house within those 10 days would be a possibility.

AFAIK, the car will not relock after someone pushed the Unlock button on the fob.

Our Toyotas, going back many years, will wait a few minutes after the fob Unlock is pushed; if you don't open a door then they eventually relock.

Or as Rocketman said, could be a simple computer glitch.

How far away"inside the house" was the fob? I have been able to open door with fob many feet away but not start the car unless it is in my right front pocket not the left.

Well, the fob was "many feet away" inside the house but this is the first time this has happened as the fob is always in that location. Not the first time I've tried entering the car without the fob in my pocket.

Just a weird occurrence.

F. M. is a huge part of these cars.

I'm guessing that you hit the unlock button sometime after you had last exited the car, maybe even just walking into the house before you put the fob away.

When you next approached the car without the fob, both doors were unlocked but you only tried the drivers side.

Then when you exited the car after the 'No Fob Detected' notice in the DIC, it Auto-locked both doors. The trunk/hatch is not affected by the status of the door locks.

Huh?

Mine will activate the alarm if the doors are locked and the Hatch/Trunk is opened.

Mine will sound the alarm if I use the trunk key while the doors are locked, but using the fob or the rubber button on the trunk, just opens the trunk.
Is yours different?

That seems to be the case.

I decided to do a test. I used the fob to unlock the car. Waited 12+ hrs, tried the Driver's door, sure enough the door opened. Expected but at the same time, unexpected. It would be nice if the car automatically locked 15, 30, 60 mins after pressing the unlock button on the fob if the lock / unlock button was not pressed. Why? Suppose you walk away from your car, lock manually or auto-lock enabled, and you accidentally hit the unlock button while within distance of your car?? Anyone can open your car....

If the top is down and the doors are locked, anyone can reach in and hit the button under the dash and it will open the trunk, but it will sound the alarm. I've never tried it on my Z06, but unless it's in my garage, it isn't parked with the windows down. I can reach in and unlock it even w/o a fob, but that doesn't work with the vert.

That. Even my '12 has had plenty of those, with battery fully charged. A few times I hit the start button and no start (second time it works). Once got low fob battery, another time no fob detected, and a few more door didn't open with fob in my pocket and touching the car. And yes, all of those times the fob had a new (Panasonic... the right one to use) battery, since I thought that was the issue. In the last few months, haven't had any such issues. Crappy system.

It is, at least on my '12. I can open the trunk without fob and doors unlocked. But obviously not with doors locked.

On our 2009 Coupe, the trunk button on the dash won't work once the car is locked.

If I leave the window down, lock the car, and reach in for the trunk button with no fob in my pocket; it's dead. Not sure if the button would work if I had the fob in my pocket outside the car.

If you have the multiple driver buttons it could be a result of how you last exited the car. It seems that when you press the driver 1 button and the start the car, the driver 1 options are loaded. So, if you then exit the car the doors will auto lock. But if you get in the car and start up without pressing the driver 1 button the options do not load, so when you exit the doors do not auto lock. I know when I first got my car I regularly forgot to press the button because I normally drive with the seat all the way back so I did not need to use the button... And kept forgetting to press the button... And my doors did not auto lock. Finally I set my steering wheel to retract upon shut down to help me remember to use the driver option button. Now it has been long enough so I hit the button without thinking about it, but in the beginning I had to pay attention.

You're not talking about using the metal key, I assume.

My '06 Vert does not work that way. The fob must be at the rear of the car, near the antenna, to open the trunk using the rubber button above the license plate. Not sure why GM would change this and compromise security.

My trunk button on the dash does not work with the car unlocked unless the fob is in the front passenger compartment.

If the car is locked, the trunk button does not work with the fob in or out of the car. Alarm does not sound.

However, the gas door button always works.
