I have been shopping for a C6 convertible and have located a "reasonably priced" 2005 with 65K on the odometer. I assume all the first year nits have been taken care of. Are there any common problems that show up in middle age ? It seems each series has had some bug-a-boo: ie Optispark, dead battery, locking steering column etc. Just trying to be prepared. Thanks, Bob

Well, really shouldn't assume.
You can get a copy of the GMVIS report from a local dealer or form one of our vendors here. It will show what repairs and maintenance GM has done on the car along with warranty and recall work. That will tell you for certain if all of the 1st year nits have been addressed.
If it's a manual trans then you face the column lock issue forever unless previous owner disabled it or you intend to disable it. If the VIN falls in the recall list for the HB make sure that was addressed.

Be prepared for the fuel gauge sensor(s) to fail and the low beam headlights to fail. These are two very common issues that I was not aware of until they happened to my 2007 vert.

Very common? I havent had either issue and never heard of fuel gauge sensor failure.
I have a 2007, I can't think of any known issues that I haven't had with my car in the last 30 thousand miles.
I have not heard of the fuel gauge though.
Headlights
Battery
Axle shafts
Wheel bearings
Harmonic balancer.
I say roll the dice and buy the car if you really like it. Worry about the problems after they arise.
