I love my coupe and take the top off frequently including today since we have no rain and 80 degree highs for the next week here in Tampa. It is nice to close it up for the summer heat and rain. Best of both! I had a convertible in the past and under ideal conditions that is preferred but for the other 90% of the time the coupe is the better option for me. Love the lines and storage all the time. Convertibles only look good with top down AND windows DOWN. Same applies when top is off my car: unless it's parked (better security) when the top is off the windows are down.

All I will say is this.....coupe has bulky, awkward tarts top that is a pain to take off and put back on. I was always worried about scratching the paint on the halo and around the trunk.
Now, with a vert with a power top.....push a button and the top can go up and down on it's own.
Where is that? I have not seen an HPDE where Verts were allowed without Roll Bars. If that is anywhere close, I will sign up! I'm not talking drag racing. I don't care about drag racing.
I love the look of a convertible when the top is down....nice and clean...
but when the top goes up, my mind always wanders to "rag top"...it just doesn't seem to flow...
But that is my opinion...and what does that count for anyway!....
But if you look at all the truly high end converts and sports cars they are all rag tops and not hardtop converts including Porsche, Jaguar and Bentley.
The Mercedes SL and SLK are hardtop converts and according to my son, who is with Mercedes, are driven mainly by women and the SLS which start at a base price of over $200k is their flagship convert is a soft top. When I mentioned maybe getting a SL he about flipped and said men don't drive those.
The hardtop converts like Miata, Lexus and BMW are aimed at the female buyers.
I just bought a '12 GS Vert. At one time, a long time ago I said I'd never buy another convertible. The modern convertible is so much better than they used to be! We decided to drive it to town the other day so we put the top down and the windows up and drove i to town, 20 miles. The open air feeling is so nice!! By the way it was about 28 degrees. With a jacket on and the heater on full blast it wasn't uncomfortable at all.
I can't wait till April or May when all the snow is melted and the roads are cleaned up to drive the car top down again. It's just about snow time here in central Wasington so it's about time for the car to go into the garage on a Battery Tender to wait till spring.

But there are certainly hardtops and targas in the high end market . . .

There are coupes and converts in the high end including the SLS gull wing version.
All I was saying that in response to the "rag top" posting the highest end true converts are all soft or rag tops and not retractable hardtop converts.

Sorry, I really did know what you were getting at . . . was just looking for an excuse to post a picture of a Bugatti with a targa top.

Asphalt Ventures - NCCAR was the venue this past Spring. Instructor included in the passenger seat. The Fall event was at VIR. Awesome time!
A C6 Coupe with the top off is not quite the same as driving a convertible. It's not as open a feeling, but still awesome. More open than a sunroof for sure, but not complete like a convertible. When you look in your mirror in a vert, there's nothing, whereas in the coupe you still see the halo (B-pillar/roof frame) of the car and windshield.
It's a matter of taste. Both are good. I personally prefer the look of a coupe over a vert especially with the vert top on. You do get more trunk space and can feel a little more secure about parking without some jealous punk slashing the canvas roof, which sadly still happens.
My top is pretty much ALWAYS off unless it's raining, or below 10 degrees C. The coupe roof is VERY easy and fast to remove. I can take mine off in less than 5 seconds. I have done this many times and can remove it faster than the power top takes. (ask my local Vette buddies if you don't believe me!)
Test drive both and see what you prefer. Both are awesome cars!
