I'm having problems with my navigation unit - again. I've had problems since I bought the car new. Now I get a massage that "voice guidance not available in that area". It's not an outlying area and it's every location I've tried. Any thoughts?
IIRC, some areas have limited coverage information in the nav disc, even though the map looks normal on the screen and we're not really out in the boonies. We used to get that message occasionally on the voice in our 2006, it might still happen in our 2009 with the 2013 disc but I keep the NavChick muted and just use the arrows/distance projected on the HUD.
Sometimes the purple route line would disappear, and I would need to just look at the map screen and figure out where to drive. Only had that happen once in the last couple of years, and we go a lot of boonie places.
Hello HS-2007-C6,
I’m sorry to hear that you have been experiencing problems with the voice guidance in your Corvette. While searching through the navigation manual, it showed that there are limited guidance areas for the United States and some roads are displayed on the map, but voice guidance and the specific route are not available. Have you checked to see if your navigational disc is up to date?

I cannot get voice guidance for any location, not even addresses that I was able to get voice guidance previously. I live in the Los Angeles area so most everywhere is on the map DVD. I was given the run around by two dealers while the car was still under warranty and now the unit seems to need to have to be replaced. I previously owned a 2005 C6 that was purchased back by GM under the lemon law in California. So, obviously I am a loyal Corvette enthusiast. As soon as my 2005 was returned, I went and bought a 2007 C7. The service I have received on both cars has been horrific except for the last year or so. The dealer I had the most problems with is Keyes Chevrolet in Van Nuys, CA. An example of their "quality" service is my current rep at Rydell in Northridge asked who installed my battery and I told him that Keyes did and he was shocked because the brackets were not attached and the battery was just laying on the tray. I am beginning to loose faith, but I love my car.
The Voice Directions can be muted, usually done on purpose but any computer occasionally changes by itself. You can check that out in the setup options, and also verify that you get the purple line for a route.
As another indication, do you have HUD in your car? If so, and you are in Street mode, you should get the turn arrows as you approach a turn point. That can help diagnose if the problem is voice only or something bigger.

Best of luck to you.
Thanks for the info., but unfortunately, all the set up options are correct. I can not get any nav functions. I just get the error message"voice guidance not available in this area". This happens every time, prior location and new location. In the Los Angeles area? It just doesn't work. I've had problems with the nav since the car was new. I have other error just pop up for no reason. Just the other I had the no air in tire message again. The tire pressure shows 0 psi and then, like magic, it shows the correct psi. This is Corvette #2 for me. My 2005 was repurchased by GM under the CA lemon law and I have had my 2007 since late 2006 when I returned my 2005.
The Corvette is my childhood dream car, but it's been harder to rationalize keeping this car. I have been jerked around by the local dealers when the car was under warranty. Now, if I replace the nav, it's on my dime. I have already had to replace the HUD and one of the front fenders even broke loose. There is no car that compares to the Corvette but, the lack of quality of workmanship I have experienced since I've had my Corvettes makes it difficult to keep my car. It is becoming a money pit.
I too have been very discouraged by the poor reliability of our various new Corvettes, though we still enjoy the car enough to keep going. But we haven't bought a new GM car for the family in over three decades and probably never will, because of reliability issues.
(Now, back to OP's Nav problem)
Does your Nav show the car's position correctly, and does the little position triangle move properly and fairly smoothly as you drive along?
Is the Nav set up properly to use the region you are in?
If you try to enter an address, does the Nav seem to accept the inputs and show a route, or does it refuse to do that part?
