Hey guys, I own a 2012 C6 coupe that I bought new about two years ago. The car has been virtually perfect until just today when I got in to fire her up. After I started the engine, I stepped on the brake to put the car into reverse and I heard a very loud and distinct "CLICK CLACK". I am not talking about the brake relay "click" that is well known and documented in this car. I am talking about a loud "CLACK" that is originating from under the shifter. In fact, if your hand is actually on the shifter (as it would be when you step on the brake to put the car in gear), you can actually feel something moving inside the shifter every time you step on the brake. This movement corresponds exactly with the "click-clack" sound, as if something is loose.
I am guessing that maybe something to do with the neutral safety switch broke loose, but that is only a guess.
only happened once, all the time, intermittent? hell car should be under warranty still right if it happens again take it in let them figure it out.
It's been happening since lunch today, each time I got into the car to drive somewhere. The car is under warrantee and I will be bringing it in. I was just wondering anyone else had ever run into this problem...
Well I have a service appointment scheduled with my dealer for the day after Christmas. I'll find out what is wrong then, but from what I have read, my money is currently on the brake/transmission interlock solenoid.
The time to worry is when it stops making that noise at all and your stuck in park. I don't know if that still happens in the later years but early 05, 06 and maybe some 07 it happened a lot.
The photos and explaination are very helpful, it is always a worry when buying a " previously owned car" we have the same taste in colors, mines a twin to yours.
Suggeston... keep your ideas to yourself. Let them figure it out. Sometimes it hard to be silent with the normal desire to impress em with your knowledge, but don't.
They have a job and the training. Let em prove it.

Good advice I have an 05 with 115,000 and rolling. Just drove from Atlanta, Ga. to Oklahoma City and she rock. Got 26.9 MPG and used mid-Grade fuel too
Hey I just bought an 07,,,what do you do if it locks in park????will I sleep tonight??
Been there, done that and you may want to learn from my mistake. Do not, repeat do not, force it out of Park. That breaks the expensive shift assembly. The way to get it out of Park may be change from year to year but this works on my 08. Do not try to start the car in park but put in the Accy mode without the engine running. While the Accy red LED is lit, put your foot on the brake and gently pull the trigger on the shift lever and move it from Park to Neutral. You should then be able to start and drive the car. Get to a dealership and have it checked out. I suspect you my have a bad, or going bad, solenoid (that is part of the shift assembly) and this procedure bypasses the the depress-brake-to-start and will let get it out of Park.
I now have a new shifter assembly and have not seen the problem again.
