I find this an interesting post as I have been part of this conversation on the Porsche site as well on Boxster verts. I have always converted power verts to manual as there is nothing that keeps me from getting stuck...which has happened in the past due to failed motors, broken transmission or actuator cables.
The owners manual outlines how to operate the top manually in the case of motor failure. There should be a special wrench in the glove box. Use the tool to open the hydraulic bypass screw on the pump. Then operate the top manually. If you don't have the wrench an allen wrench of the apprpriate size will work.

I have no special wrench - guess someone wanted it more than me. What kind of wrench is it?
What year is your car? I would fix mine. I got 3LT because I hate manual tops. I was glad to see a way to operate it in the book if it breaks though. Mine has the wrench.
