Default Rotor Conversion

I bought a C6 Coupe in 2006. Knowing I would not be driving the car hard, I opted out of the oversized cross drilled rotors. Didn't take long to understand I made a big mistake. Mystandard rotors look very dinky while parked to a Vette with the big rotors.

Anyway, I would like to make the switch if possible. I understand I may be a little pricy but I am willing to make the investment.

Can anyone offer information or advice? Can this be done?

Thanks,

Don Underwood - Baxter Springs, KS

Easy swap -- you dont even have to open the lines on the calipers, since your standard calipers will work on the larger Z51 rotors. All you need is 4 new Z51 rotors and 4 new caliper mounting brackets (just the brackets -- your current calipers will work). I believe Forum vendors have packages to do the exact upgrade you are considering. I thought it was like $500 for the conversion parts, but admittedly, its been years since I did it -- could be different now.

I did the exact same upgrade on mine in an afternoon. Consider painting your stock calipers, as its easy to do when you have the rotors off, and makes a big visual impact. This is also a good time to throw in a new set of brake pads.

*Basic* simplified steps:
1) raise car
2) pull off wheels
3) unbolt calipers & hang them aside leaving brake line attached
4) unbolt old brake caliper bracket -- discard
5) remove old brake disc -- discard
6) install new Z51 brake disc
7) install new Z51 caliper bracket
8) bolt old brake caliper to Z51 bracket
9) reinstall wheels

There's more to it than than (proper torque, locktite bolts, etc) but in a nutshell -- thats it.

I'm sure there's a complete DIY page on it somewhere here on the forum.
Cheers,
Kent

Here are some pics of my 2005 (now owned by my brother-in-law).

The "after" pics are with Baer Eradispeed 2-piece rotors. The rear is their "Plus 2" rotor, which is 2 inches larger in diameter than the stock rear rotor - the Plus 2 is 14 inches in diameter.

LOL. Yea well I did noticed the noticeable difference when I attended the Bash in 2006. So a few years later I'm planning to do the Caravan and would like the new look for that. See ya there. Look for the White Coupe with new rotors!

The more serious drag racers prefer those smaller rotors and brackets to reduce weight. You might want to check around before dumping them in the trash.
Good luck with the new look.

Now that's a mod that's worth it. I'm sure there are other vendor's drilled rotors that may be less $$$$ than the GM ones. Not sure about that tho.
