So I am driving my 2012 coupe to work this morning and about 30 minutes from the house, I get the "Service Tire Sensor" message and the low pressure light starts flashing. I check the pressures on the DIC and I see a "xx" where the front left tire pressure should be, so I figure that sensor (or TPMS battery)has gone bad.
I call my dealer and schedule the car to go in tomorrow afternoon. I then get in the car to drive home and I get no messages of any kind. All four tires show the normal 30lbs of pressure.
I got home, and the TPMS message flashed again for about a minute then went away.
I know what's going to happen. I will pull into the service bay tomorrow, and will hear the dreaded, "We can't replicate your problem".
Has happened to me plenty of times...took it to the dealer, twice, who "couldn't replicate the problem." It's always the RF so I suspect the sensor's battery is weakening. Will replace all sensors when it's time to replace the tires...annoying, but able to live with it.
Well, the good news is the dealer established the left front TPMS sensor is bad and ordered another one for install next week. I am sort of surprised that they would have to order something as simple as a TPMS sensor, but I am not complaining. At least it's getting fixed under warranty...
I just picked up my Corvette, new sensor installed under warranty. I won't know for a couple of days if it is really "fixed" as the old sensor would only act up after 30 minutes or so of driving.
It did take an extra hour or two for the dealer to make the repair. It seems that when the mechanic went to the parts department to get the new sensor, the parts guys said, "Do you want the sensor you ordered, or the one that is actually supposed to be used on this car?"
Apparently, the mechanic said, "Give me the one I ordered"
Well, you guessed it. the new TPMS would not program. They had to take the tire back off the wheel and install the CORRECT sensor...
Same thing happened to me yesterday. It has happened twice now. Right rear.
