Default C6 Headlight Hazing

I have 2012 GS with 15K miles and have had what looks to me to be "hazing" on the inside of the headlights for quite some time (see pictures attached). Has anyone else had this problem? I asked my local Chev dealer and he said this was "normal" (duh!) and that there was nothing really to do about it. I realize this doesn't really hurt anything functional but it bugs me to see this! Suggestions?

My 2010 GS (18K) has that fogging going on as well. Bugs me too. That being said, I could swear I've seen variance based on outside temperature and humidity. It never completely goes away though.

Yes, me too. Little crack-like lines. Is there a fix for that without replacement?

Micro cracks that look like little hairs on the inside of the lens is called "crazing". Generally caused by over heating. Over heating is accelerated by Headlight Armor, clear bra type covering, and certain automotive cleaning chemicals that don't jive with the molecular make up of the C6s specially formulated lens.

Have the dealer replace under warranty. Those bastards are $900/pc. I put headlight armor on mine and had cracks within 3,000 miles. Luckily I removed all the residue and such and had them replaced under warranty.

OP's car's still within the 3/36 & one or both buckets have to be replaced. I've an '08 and while it's garaged the lenses are pristine clear, no way is crazing right.

Mine looked like that after about a year, replaced under warranty, no hassles.

Great tips- I don't currently have any symptoms but good things to keep in mind to help prevent problems...

I guess installing the protecting film on headlights and front bumper caused the crazing to lenses.

I found clean used lenses for $75. Good deal ?

That sure looks like condensation on the inside to me. The buckets are supposed to be mostly sealed but they have to breath a little. Looks like you got water inside and now it has condensed on the inside. I would first try removing one of the bulbs like you were going to replace it and blow some canned air inside to flush out the humid air. You won't get all the condensation but it is a start. Put it back together and run the headlights for a while to heat the inside (or use a hair dryer?). Repeat blowing out the humid air until clear.

I had to replace my passenger side headlight from a hit and run that messed it up. Brand new one was $1200. Insurance covered it, but now I have to get my driver side lens replaced and polish the inside of the headlight. It's going to run me $350 at the body shop I took my car to. Sucks, but its def noticeable and looks awkward lol. Especially since my car is an 06.

I have thought the same thing but didn't think about trying to blow dry air though one of the bulb openings, thanks, I will give that a try to see how it works!

Clear bra on my headlights since new. It's 2013 GS with over 5000 miles on it. They still look brand new.

Sorry but paint protection film DOES NOT cause crazing. Period. That is a bad rumor that has been circulating around because no one knew what was causing it. I have seen brand new C6s, 370s, and a few other vehicle types siting on the lot with crazed lights... no film on there at all yet the lenses already crazed. I have also installed hundreds of sets of headlight kits over the years without one single incident of the lights crazing. I believe your second comment is the real cause, certain cleaners have a chemical reaction with the polycarbonate lenses causes them to weaken and crack.

CF member RLSebring has a side business replacing C6 lenses, he sees more good and bad ones than most of us will see in a lifetime.

IIRC, he says that there have been many that never had a clear film or harsh chemicals used and still went bad, but he loads the dice in his favor by not using those items.

Agreed..
I only wash my lights and never put any thing on them other than possibly some detail spray when I'm wiping down the whole front end... nothing else. Over time, then will get piting (normal) and now, my 2007 is getting a custom rebuild by vettesthetics... Mike is a great guy! and yes, I bought my new lenses from RLSEBRING and he's a prince!

If your Vette is still under warranty and I am sure it is, you can go to your dealership and apply a little "I am not happy with these lights"... pressure on the service manger. I work with a local dealership who has warrantied quite a few. One thing to consider is the stock on the self is likely to have similar issues. If you get a new set and it gets you down the road a few years then you can replace just your lenses at that point. Best of luck and contact me if you need help.

Thanks- Mike

are there any lightly tinted covers to go over the existing on the market....not thinking full blackout that you have to remove at night, but something to minimize seeing the crackle and add an accent of a tinted headlight.....
